Junior Premier Championship 2023
Round 2
Castlegregory 0-10 V Ballymacelligott 0-10
Ballymac played their second-round game of the Premier Junior Championship in Castlegregory on Sunday.
Coming into this game Ballymac had two points on the table from their win over Brosna the previous week. Castlegregory were really up for the game having lost to neighbours Annascaul in the first round.
The very strong wind had a big influence on the outcome of the game with both teams coming away with a point a piece at the final whistle.
Ballymac played with the aid of the strong breeze in the first half and opened the scoring with a point from a free by Aidan Breen. This was quickly followed by two points from play by Niall Collins and Michéal Reidy.
Castlegregory registered their first score with a point from a free from their corner forward Maurice O’Connell. Daire Keane kicked three points from play for Ballymac to Castlegregory’s one from midfielder Alan Fitzgerald.
Castlegregory registered two more scores from frees before half time. Ballymac’s last score of the first half came from Niall Collins from play.
Half-time score Ballymac 0-7 Castlegregory 0-4.
The first score of the second half went to Castlegregory with a point from a free. Ballymac were quick to respond with a point from a free from Vinny Horan and a point from play from Micheal Reidy.
Castlegregory applied the pressure and kicked the next four points to level the game at 9 points apiece. Ballymac edged in front with a point from a free from Vinny Horan.
With the game now in added time -Castlegregory pointed a free to level it at 10 points apiece. This was to be the last score of the game and makes the last-round game at home in Ballymac V Annascaul a really exciting prospect.
Both teams are on three points going into this game.
Ballymac team: Christy Leen, Mike Sweeney, Daniel O’ Shea, Josh O ‘Keeffe, Darragh Sweeney, Tadgh Brick, Cian Counihan, Aidan Breen, Micheal Reidy, Niall Collins, Daire Keane, Adam Sheehy, Donal Daly, Vinny Horan, Brian Lonergan. Subs used; Tomas O’Connor, Cathal Dunne and Padraig McCarthy.
Home support next weekend is vital and very much appreciated. Fixture will be on social media as soon as it becomes available.
Senior Ladies
Our Senior Ladies begin their Championship campaign tonight August 21st with a trip to Glenbeigh to play Cromane in round 1 of the Bon Secours County Championship Junior A
Girls Minor Co League Div 1 semifinal
We lost out by 2 points to neighbours Castleisland Fri evening. We lined out minus Sarah Scanlon, Laura Sugrue and Kerry Hennesy due to injury and unavailability.
Desmonds got off to a good start scoring 2 pts in first 5 minutes but after that the girls knuckled down, 2 goals from Ella Quirke points from Roisin Rahilly, Kate Collins and Emma Daly saw us lead 2-6 to 0-4 heading for halftime but Desmonds got a fortuitous goal and followed up with a point to see halftime score of 2-6 to 1-5. Ballymac also left 3 clear cut goal chances after them in that 1st half. The 2nd half started well enough both sides trading points Roisin from a free and Kate Collins from play. Then a passage of play that saw Ballymac hit the crossbar for a goal attempt ended with Desmonds breaking up field to score a goal of their own. From here they had momentum and defensively they put up the shutters and the Ballymac girls not for the want of trying were held scoreless for remaining 18 mins. Desmonds qualify for the final v Cromane next Wednesday night. We wish them the best of luck.
For Ballymac Jamie Lee o Connor, Anna Collins, and Keelin Enright gave supreme effort on the night. Special mention to Orla O Connor who deputised for Kerry in goals and gave a very accomplished display. The girls now concerate on the senior team campaign in the junior championship.

U15 Central Region Div 5 Final
Ballymac 0-6
Laune Rangers 3-9
Hard luck to our Gold team, who lost out to Laune Rangers on Thursday evening in Na Gael.
Both teams were very evenly matched in the 1st half, with great competition on view. Scores were traded, and indeed, at the short whistle, nothing could separate the sides.
However, our opponents brought on 2 or 3 very strong subs at halftime and this was the changing of the game.
Our backs, who were magnificent, were eventually breached, and unfortunately our forwards struggled to find form.
It wasn’t to be on the night, but it certainly wasn’t for the lack of effort.
Our boys can feel proud of their performance.
U9 boys
U9 boys played two games against Castlegregory Thursday evening in Ballymac. Both teams showed great determination and team work throughout. Our boys are improving with every game they play. Keep up the practice at home. Well done boys
Academy
Academy will return to normal time next Sunday Morning
U7 boys and girls played Castleisland Desmonds this weekend. They played 4 matches showing some great skill and determination. Their skills are improving every week. Well done to the boys and girls.
