SENIORS:
Scartaglen 1 – 10 Ballymac 1 – 10
Our Senior Team played their final Co. League game of 2016 when they travelled to play Scartaglen on Sunday last. The home side made better use of their early possession and led by 1 – 4 to 0 – 1 at the end of the first quarter T J Casey being the Ballymac scorer. We came more into the game for the remainder of the half as both sides added 3 points to their total prior to the half time whistle. Daniel O Shea 0 – 2 and Vinnie Horan 0 – 1 (F) adding to the Ballymac total to leave the half time score Scartaglen 1 – 7 Ballymac 0 – 4. Ballymac upped the gear in the second half and 3 points from Vinnie Horan 0 – 2 (F) saw the deficit reduce to 3 by the 40th minute. However, Scart replied with 3 points of their own to extend their lead to 6 points with 10 minutes remaining and our prospects looked bleak. However, a slip by the Scartaglen goalkeeper which saw him lose possession was capitalised upon by T J Casey who slotted to the net gave us renewed hope and Ballymac were grateful to Vinnie Horan with 3 pointed frees in the time remaining to snatch a draw.
Team: P Laide, L. Dunne, M. Leen, D. Madden, G. Horan, C. Reynolds, D Long, M Herlihy, D O Shea, W. Casey. E. Reidy, S. Savage, J. Scanlon, T. J. Casey, V. Horan, Subs : T Lyons, K. Lyons.
Overall it was a very successful Co League campaign with the main aim of promotion to Division 3 achieved with a game to spare. Also the playing of games throughout the summer was a big plus meaning an earlier finish compared to December finish in 2015.
