Round 2 of The Castleisland Mart Junior premier County League Ballymac V Listowel Emmets
Saturday 7th of April 2018
Venue – Ballymac GAA
Referee – James Brosnan
Ballymac took on Listowel Emmets on Saturday night last in a very heavy playing surface. With both teams losing their opening round games this game took on extra meaning as both teams needed the win.
The first half proved ot be a very tight affair with both teams exchanging point for point . Ballymac were beginning to establish a slight lead when Brian Sweeney snook inside the Ballymac rear guard to slot home Listowels 1st goal.
The sides went in level at half time on a score of 0-08 to 1-05
Ballyymac started spritely in the 2nd half and added scores form Luke Sweeney, TJ Casey and Vinnie Horan before Aiden Breen netted form a quick free. Listowel had one point expertly taken by their experienced full forward Noel Kennelly during this passage of play.
Ballymac kept the score bpoard ticking over and added 6 more points form Darragh O’Reagan and Aiden Breen.
Listowel responded strongly in the final 10 minutes with what can only be described as a wonder goal form Noel Kennelly which saw him outfield 3 Ballymac players and rifle the ball into the top corner of the net. Listowel kept pressing and their efforts paid off when they saw another shot blasted to the net.
Unfortunately for Listowel is proved to be not enough and Ballymac edged them out by four points.
Its proved to be a typical championship game with both sides giving it all in terrible conditions by creit to Ballymac on a fine display and they we will be happy with the win.
Final score 1-17 to 3-07.
Ballymac now take on NA Gael in the final round of the group stages in a must win game next Saturday 14th of April away in Kileen.
