GOLF CLASSIC FUNDRAISER 2017
Last Saturday we staged the now annual Ballymac GAA Golf Classic in Beaufort Golf Club. The Club received fantastic support from local businesses and would like to thank everyone who sponsored a team, a tee box or a green. The classic was very well supported with over 40 teams entered in the event. The day stayed dry but the course was playing long due to the rain that fell during the week. Great credit goes to the Freeman Electrical team (David Fitzgerald, Killian Wolff, Jack Mc’Carty, Daniel Finnegan) who won with a great score of 95pts. Second place with 87pts was T. Leen, E. Fitzgerald, W. O’Connor & D. Galvin. Third place with 86pts was the team from Dromid GAA club. Longest Drive: Killian Wolff. Nearest the pin: Mick Bolger. A massive thank you to all who supported the event, be it playing, sponsoring a tee or a green, or helping out on the day. A particular word of thanks has to go to all at the Blasket Bar for sponsoring first prize and giving us a great venue for the prize giving on Saturday night. A special word of thanks must also go to the organising committee who put in many hours of hard work which reaped a great benefit for the Club last weekend. Beaufort golf club is booked again for 2018.

Our U16 boys played Churchill in the final of the Town League last Sunday evening in Ballyrickard. This turned out to be an entertaining and physically demanding game of football. Churchill started the game strongly and went in to half time leading by 1-04 to Ballymac’s 0-2. Ballymac started the second half in a determined fashion but Churchill responded well to keep the gap between the teams and added another goal which looked like ending the game as a contest. However, Ballymac’s Sean Horan scored a goal with ten minutes to go in the game to give the team a chance of closing the gap. They were also unfortunate not to get a penalty when Darragh Broderick was fouled in the box. Churchill went on to win the game on a score line of Ballymac 1-08 to Churchill’s 2-13. Well done to the team on spirited effort against a strong Churchill team. Many thanks to the mentors and players for their efforts throughout the year.

On Saturday the 7th of October Ballymac U10’s participated in the Annual U10 Castleisland District Blitz held in Knocknagoshel. As this was a rescheduled event it clashed with other activities and only allowed Ballymac to field one team. In total 18 player’s attended on the day with the emphasis being on equal game time for each player. Ballymac had two league games against Knocknagoshel and Brosna, winning both of these saw us qualify for the A final against Cordal. It was Cordal who made the better start with some much more physical players in the middle third but to credit the Ballymac boys they gave it their all and competed to the end but it was to be Cordal’s day as they went on to win the A final. Some fantastic skills and work ethic shown by all on the day which was most encouraging to see. Many thanks to the host club for hosting the event The following day Sunday the 08th of October we competed in the Siobhan Cotter memorial blitz in Churchill where our U7, U8, U9, and U10 boys were playing. On the day we had games against Churchill, Austin Stacks, and John Mitchel’s. Our opponents on the day were Churchill, John Mitchel’s, and Austin Stacks. Our U10’s began with a game against Austin Stacks and came up short by seven points. However, we played some good football in our next game to defeat John Mitchel’s. In our final game we played the hosts Churchill and this was a very competitive game which ended up in a draw. Our U 9’s had three competitive games coming up with a hard fought win against Austin Stacks in their first game. I our second game we drew with Churchill in our second game, and we saved our best football until last with an excellent victory over John Mitchel’s in a very competitive game. The host club Churchill were the overall winners of the Blitz and we would like to thank them for hosting the event.
