Round 2 of the Division 2 County League
Ballymac V Milltown/ Castlemaine
Sunday March 25th at Ballymac GAA
Referee – John Dineen
This was always going to be game full of competition and stamina and it proved just that when from the first throw of the ball both teams worked hard to earn their points on the league table. It was Milltown/Castlemaine’s no.11 Cathal Moriarty who in only 50 seconds into the game took the host side by surprise when he ploughed through Ballymac to score the first goal of the game. This was followed quickly by a well taken free kick in the visitors favour and then another goal from Milltown/ Castlemaines Gavin Horan. Ballymac were down 2-01 but showed no weakness and were not daunted by the scoreboard when Aiden Breen scored 3 points in succession from frees given followed by another point well played by Ballymacs Cathal Dunne. Milltown/ Castlemaine responded with a further 2 points but it was Ballymacs Vinne Horans time to shine when he was given the opportunity to punch the ball taking the visitors keeper Cormac Leane by surprise and scored a much needed goal. 2 further points from Aidan Breen and Padraig McCarthy narrowed the gap significantly and Milltown/ Castlemaines responding 3 points brought the half time score to Ballymac 1-06 to Milltown/Castlemaines 2-06.
The second half began with obvious determination when Ballymac restarted with a renewed strength. Aidan Breen handed the home side 3 more outstanding points and a further point from Darragh Regan brought Ballymac to the lead for the first time in the game. It was point for point as the battle wore on and Milltown /Castlemaine pushed hard to edge forward with well placed points and it was now a head to head game. Ballymac led their opponents by 3 points for a period of time but going into extra time the visitors fought hard to reel in the home side. Milltown/Castlemaine pushed onto kick 3 free in the final minutes. There is no doubt both sides attacked with great skill to gain the winning points but as the referee blew the whistle for the final time it was all level with a final score of Ballymac 1-16 , Milltown/Castlemaine 2-13.
Ballymac are happy to take the point on this occasion and we look forward to more magic from this ever improving side.
We would like to wish Milltown/Castlemaine the very best in their season ahead.
Minor County league
GNEEVEGUILLA 1-13 BALLYMAC 2-7
We travelled to Gneeveguilla last Monday evening for our second County League .game.On a dry but chilly evening the home side were the the better team for most of the game. That there was only a few points between the sides at the end was largely due to a string of fine saves by goalkeeper Eoghan Kenny, and strong performances by Dara Keane and Cathal Dunne..The home side settled quickly , finding the net early on before adding 3 points. As half time approached we had only 2 Dara Keane points on the board.Barry Lyons was fouled and Dara Keane goaled from the free to leave the half time score G/GUILLA 1-6 BALLYMAC 1-2
We came more into the game after the restart. Two Tadhg Brick points from free’s and one each from Jonathan Lowe and Dara Keane were matched by 4 G/Guilla points, 1-10 to 1-6 with 10 minutes remaining.Ballymac tried hard for another goal while our opponents notched up 3 more points. With only a few minutes left Dara Keane pointed and then Dylan Dunne weaved through for a goal but there was time for no more.

Ballymac 7-6 Corcha Duibhne 1-6
Round 1 of 2018 U14 Co League Div 2 played on a beautiful Sunday spring evening in Balllymac . The Ballymac girls got into this game straight away with Yvonne Hurley at centre forward leading by example , she got us off the mark with a fine point from our first attack . She fielded the ensuing kick out and set up Ciara Palmer for our first goal . Roisin Rahilly made a strong run forward and her shot for goal hit the post but Ciara followed up to put the ball in the net for goal no 2 after 6 mins . Corcha Duibhne settled more into the game and scored 1-1 . Eimer Curran kicked a free for us , before good work from Grainne Galvin & Roisin Rahilly at midfield resulted in 1-2 from Ciara . Just before half time Shona Griffen set up Sarah Mason for another 3 pointer just before half time . Our defence were really good in this half as well with Alyssa Leen , Ella Quirke and Kerry Hennsey doing well as did our goalie Lorna Daly whose kick outs were finding blue jerseys every time .
