Ladies Notes 13 September 2020
Senior Ladies
Ballymac 3:18 Rathmore B 1:04
The Senior Ladies welcomed Rathmore B in the Junior C Semi Final on Tuesday 8th of September. It was another fantastic victory from our girls. A master class in every area of the pitch!! We are certainly looking forward to the challenge of the final next Sunday against Annascaul Castlegregory.
Tonight’s game played in a perfect Ballymac pitch saw our girls bouncing off the ground.
Eve Creedon opened the scoring with a well taken point. From the start we had control all over the pitch. Áine Rice was in top form on the wing being fed lovely ball from Ellie McElligott in the middle. In defence, we were solid as we have been from the start with Niamh Rahilly and Una Kerins holding solid in the full back and centre.
Caoimhe Carroll played a blinder in wing forward making piercing runs throughout with Kate O’Connor and Lisa Curran always looking for ball. It was great to have Emma Sweeney and Cora Savage back from injury tonight making massive contributions.
One of the strongest assets we have as a team is the strength of our panel and the girls we have to come in always offer plenty.
Thanks again to Sean and Kerry Hennessy and Fionnan Fitzgerald who live streamed the game on Facebook.
U14 Girls
MLK 6-9 Ballymac 4-3.
Following good victories over Cromane and Beaufort in the last two weekends our u14 Girls welcomed MKL Gaels to Ballymac on Sunday 6th September in Division One of the County League.
The first half proved high scoring with the away side leading at the break 3-8 to 3-2.Sarah West, Aoife Sweeney and Kate Collins scoring the Ballymac goals. The third quarter saw us dominate possession but our failure to convert the many chances which came our way meant we still trailed going into the final quarter. MLK Gaels struck for late goals to seal the victory while a Jill Quirke goal proved a consolation score for Ballymac.
Best for Ballymac were goalkeeper Aoibheann Broderick who brought off some wonderful saves, Alice and Rose Brosnan, Alexa Weiss, Ashlinn Baily and Laura Kelly.
Best wishes also to Maire Culloty and Laura Sugrue who are currently out of action due to injury.

Division One: Semi Final
Southern Gaels v Ballymacelligott
So here it was the Final Four…the best four ladies teams in the county….such high levels for a club with such a small player base and to face Champions Southern Gaels …what an achievement from this group of young ladies.
The long journey to Caherciveen seemed to have a bit of an effect on our ladies, as the hoped for quick start from us did not materialize, instead we were under the cosh from word go. So much so that we were 2-4 to a Ciara Palmer point from a free down at the water break, but it could have been a lot worse only for some great defending by the Ballymac Ladies, some excellent saves by Kerry Hennessy in goal and great work by Player of the Match Roisin Rahilly, by far the best player on the pitch. Our girls galvanized themselves for the second quarter of the game and got our first goal from Kate Collins and we should have scored more as we owned this quarter of the game. Southern Gaels did hit us for 2-1 on turnovers in that first half while also making our kickouts difficult to win.
Into the second half and we started with a bang…a second goal from Kate Collins and a quick point again afterwards. At this stage we had lost star player Alyssa Leen O’Shea to injury and were now carrying a few knocks. Our bench was strong and we had some great performances from there. Into the final quarter and we again were able to add another 1-1 with a goal from Ciara Palmer and a point from Roisin Rahilly. We were very unlucky for a few more goals and points tonight, but the ladies played their hearts out right to the final whistle and have proved that we belong in this the highest level.
Goalkeeper Kerry Hennessy was really worked hard tonight but kept us in touch the whole time with good handling, point blank saves and good kickouts under a lot of pressure.
The backline put in some performance with tight marking corner backs Lorna Daly and Abbey Leahy flanking another towering performance from Grainne Galvin. Wingbacks Ella Quirke and Cathy Palmer worked their socks off and Alyssa Leen O’Shea was rock solid at centre back until injury when Keelin Enright moved back to cover and did a mighty job there. Rachel Griffin made a huge contribution when introduced and Laura Kelly got in some outstanding blocks on the Southern Gaels forwards.
Shonagh Griffin put in an incredible workrate at Midfield alongside the player of the game Roisin Rahilly.
Our half forwards Ciara Palmer, Keelin Enright and Kate Collins tormented the opposition backline and the inside line of Emer Curran, Emma Leen and Rachel Creedon did very well with limited amount of ball. Niamh Lynch was very unlucky to not add another goal to last week’s, Jill Quirke, Roisin Raggett and Emma Daly all made big contributions when introduced. Missing this evening due to injuries and other commitments were Ciara Kerins, Anna Collins, Charlotte Geary, Sarah Mason and Maura Culloty. We are so proud of the improvements made this year by the ladies and are so proud of every single one of them and their commitment to the Ballymacelligott Ladies Club.
To all the parents and guardians of these mighty ladies thank you for all the help, encouragement and travelling in this difficult year, our club and community relies on you so much and you always come up trump’s for us.
Finally to the coaching team of Donal Rahilly, Anthony Griffin, Siobhan Leen and Sean Hennessy, thank you for your huge commitment to the cause and the Trojan work done over the year.
Keep peeled to the page, as we hope to have a few more adventures before the year is out.
