St Kierans
Very hard luck to St Kieran’s who were narrowly beaten by reigning champions East Kerry last Saturday evening in Austin Stack Park Tralee.
We are all proud of the commitment and dedication shown by Jimmy Keane, his management team, the players especially our own Ballymac Lads and all the clubs who have given great support to the District Board in what is a very difficult year for sports
Final score: East Kerry 2-13 St Kierans 1-14.

Covid Advisory Group – Updated advice on attendance at underage games
26 August 2020
The GAA’s Covid Advisory committee have issued updated guidance to all clubs in relation to attendance at underage games. This advice is based on updated guidelines issued on behalf of the Government by Sport Ireland:
Clubs should note that:
No more than 1 designated individual should attend a training session or game per child/family/group of children.
The GAA Health Questionnaires MUST be completed by parents/guardians in advance of attendance.
Overall numbers should be kept to a minimum and in line with the space available in the venue/facility.
Parents are NOT permitted to be in attendance at adult games where their child (U18) is participating. However, provision can be made to allow an adult to be in close proximity (e.g. in the car park etc) in case medical or other emergency needs require their presence.
It has also been clarified that a parent/guardian attending an underage game in these circumstances shall not be subject to vetting as they are only the supervisor in a guardianship role for their own child and not any other child on the team.
In accordance with the Covid 19 guidelines issued, the following restrictions will apply for games:
The following personnel are allowed on the field during each game:
2 mentors per team
Players from both teams including substitutes
Match officials (Referees, Linesmen, Umpires)
Each team must present the Referee with a team sheet outlining names of all players and mentors and to include contact numbers for both mentors.
Every venue must have a Covid Officer monitoring the entrance at all times.
It is vitally important to abide by the One Parent or Guardian only per child attendance rule (and that is if it is necessary from a welfare viewpoint) and parent/guardian are obliged to fill out health questionnaire form before attending matches .
All those permitted to enter the field must sanitise their hands at the gate.
All present must observe the two meters social distancing rule.
U12 Boys
Our U12 boys began their round 2 Championship campaign in Division 2A against Austin Stacks in Connolly Park Tralee on Sunday Evening last.
Our gold team lined out on the Nuns field against a very strong Stacks B team. Our boys battled hard against a much physically stronger side. Despite fantastic fighting performances by Fionn Enright, Adrian o Connor, Kyran Boyle and Eric Quirke the Rockies pulled out a strong lead and held onto it. It was a brave performance by our lads who battled to the final whistle and never gave up. It was a tough day in the office but one which we can take many positives from going forward.
Our Blue team took the field against a very strong Stacks Team on the main pitch. Right from the whistle we had a right battle on our hands with most of the play being fought in the center regions of the pitch. The Midfield battle was immense with some lovely play by both sides. The stacks opened the scoring after 8 minutes with a point but the Ballymac defence held strong throughout. Sean Martin opened our account with 2 lovely points and at half time we were trailing by 4 points but still very much in the game. An early Stacks goal in the second half didn’t shake our boys as they dug their heels in and began to claw their way back with some excellent scores from Graham West and Eoghan Joy. Ballymac kept the pressure on with some fantastic footballing skills and 3 quick goals and a point came to put us a goal and a point up with 5 minutes to go.
The atmosphere was electric as our gold team joined the side line to roar their team mates on.
In the final minutes the Stacks came back but our Ballymac lads held firm. Despite the Rockies fielding an illegal extra player and some very dubious calls by the home umpire they failed to score and the ball went up the field and Graham West tucked over a lovely point just before the final whistle.
The sight of our 28 Ballymac boys on the pitch cheering and congratulating each other was uplifting to all who witnessed it. Full time score Ballymac 3-07 to 2-05.
All the boys on both teams showed great courage and strength and battled to the final whistle with each other, for each other.
As coaches we are so proud of this bunch of lads, their commitment to training is starting to pay off.

U14 Boys
U14 Blue Team
Under 14 Division 2B County League
The boys travelled to Cordal on Wednesday evening last to play Cordal/Scart in round one, of phase two, of the County League.
A very enjoyable game played out, with our boys having eight points to spare at the final whistle, on a score line 5-11 to 3-09.
Our boys dominated the first half with some great defending from our half back line and some great penetrating runs from our midfielders. Our forwards contributed very well throughout the game taking some great scores . Working as a unit they punched holes in the oppositions defence while also working hard off the ball, tracking back when needed especially in the second half when Cordal/Scart applied a lot of pressure on our defence. The boys travel to Moyvane on Wednesday next in round 2
Team; Cian Harris, Thomas Leen , Conor Martin, Jamie Burke, Cathal White, Stephen Turner, Conal Savage, Shane Gilroy, Eoin Moriarty, Gearoid Healy, Jack Joy, Tom Long, Micheal Savage, Jack Slattery, Luke Silles.
Subs; Mark O Connor, Ciaran O Connell, Micheal O Connor, Evan O Brien, Maurice Harrington, Shane Brosnan.
Gold Team
Ballymac Gold v Laune Rangers Mon 24th
Our U14 Gold boys kicked off Round 2 of the County League with a home game against Laune Rangers B on a wet and windy Monday evening in Ballymac. In the first half we played into the wind and struggled to retain our kickouts. Luckily Laune Rangers also struggled with the wind and missed a lot of scoreable chances. We went into half time trailing by 4 points. A few positional changes were made with Michael Quirke moving to midfield and Gearoid Healy to Centre Fwd. The whole team really lifted their performance levels and we started winning more ball and some great team play led to 3 quick goals for Ballymac including a great individual goal from Gearoid and we went into the last water break 3 pts up. A late goal for Rangers gave them a 1pt lead in the last few minutes however Luke Silles slotted over a fine free of his left boot to earn us a deserved draw in the end on scoreline of 4-4 to 2-10.
Kilcummin u14b v Ballymac Gold Team
We played away to Kilcummin on Fri 28th on a nice evening for football. From the very start our boys took control of the game with great tackling, passing and selfless play. We were 1-2 to no score up after 5 mins with Luke Silles, Mike Quirke and Gearoid Healy causing all sorts of problems for the Kilcummin Defence. Eoghan Joy and Padraig Reidy were tenacious at midfield and our defence was solid with Micheal O’Connor having a great game at centre back. Any Kilcummin attacks that got beyond our half backs were tackled hard by Donncha Enright, Tom Leen and Cian Gilroy. Cian Harris had another excellent outing in goals and is turning into an outstanding keeper. Some fabulous passages of play and great team spirit saw the boys win 5-11 to 0-9.

Ladies Notes:
Senior Ladies:
Junior C Championship Round 4
Ballymacelligott 2:17
Kerins O’Rahillys 1:01
Another win on Wednesday 24th of August puts Ballymac on top of the league with 4 wins from 4 and into the final!!
The Round 4 win was played behind closed doors in a very wet and windy Healy Park, yet it saw Ballymac play some of their best football yet. Even without some key players, due to injury, the team excelled in all areas of the pitch.
Kate O’Connor got the team off to the dream start with a goal and point. It must be said that one of strongest assets as players is the ability to control the opposition kick outs. Heaping pressure on their defensive saw players like Lisa Curran, Eve Creedon and Ellie McElligott take some exceptional scores with Therese Keane dangerous in full forward. Without one of our star forwards, an injured Cora Savage, these girls really stood up and took some lovely frees.
On the wings, Mary Anne Fleming and Áine Rice scooped up free ball and both got some great points in return.
When Kerins O’Rahillys did break from their kick outs Ballymac were well able for them. Captain Úna Kerins was strong in centre back and was backed up fiercely by Roisin Long and Millie Luck. Aisling O’Connell gave them the confidence to go and make darting runs up the pitch, when needed.
Although the ball was slow making its way past the Ballymac centre back line but when it did come the full back line of Cait Rice, Niamh Rahilly and Sinéad McKeown and the experienced Robyn White in goals were strong.
We had 5 girls who didn’t start, but all made a big impact when they came on. Holly Geary with a well taken goal, Michaela Murphy on the wing with punishing runs, Caoimhe Carroll in defence with a great presence. Young Grainne Galvin played super and Lorna Daly always an option for the ball.
Wishing all our injured players a speedy recovery; Cora Savage, Emma Sweeney, Veronica O’Donnell and Emily O’Brien.
Massive thanks is extended to Fionnán Fitzgerald, Pa White, Sean and Kerry Hennessy who provided a live stream of the game on the Ballymacelligott GAA Facebook page, ensuring all those who couldn’t attend could enjoy the game from the comfort of their own homes. We really do appreciate your time and effort, especially on a bad night.
U16 Girls :
Round 4 of Division one of the Rose Hotel County League
Ballymacelligott 0:08
Southern Gaels 5:11
Lining up at home versus the reigning County Champions of both U12 and U14 with this age group, the Ballymac Ladies were really up against it tonight. Minus selector Anthony Griffin and his two daughters Shonagh and Rachel with Eimear Curran also out, the task became harder. But what a turn out for the ladies, with a panel of 23 for the game, the ladies really took this game to a star studded Southern Gaels boasting numerous Kerry players at U14 and U16 levels. Despite Southern Gaels racing into a 1-3 lead after the first 11 mins, we started to settle well and got our first point from a Ciara Palmer free, quickly followed by a point from play by Roisin Rahilly and another free from Ciara Palmer. This left the score at 1-3 to 0-3 at the water break, with Anna Collins very unlucky with a great goal chance. In the next quarter SG put up 2-3 to two points for Ballymac from Anna Collins and Ciara Palmer. But yet again two good goal chances went a begging.
Into the second half and we began making changes to get as much game time as possible for the team and the physicality of the SG ladies was beginning to tell. However, we fought right to the end, with a further three points from Anna Collins and two from Ella Quirke one from play and one from a free. We put up a great performance and again our ladies did a huge amount of great defending and moving the ball up the field. In the end the difference was how clinical SG were in front of the posts winning out on a score line of 5-11 to 0-8, however we had six really good goal chance’s that we failed to convert, two of them leading directly to two SG goals at the other end where we were punished for not taking our chances and getting turned over.
Kerry Hennessy, overworked in goal for us, made a number of good saves, with the full back line being led superbly by Lorna Daly and another towering performance by Grainne Galvin ably assisted by Abbey Leahy, Maura Culloty, Ciara Kerins and Sarah Mason in turn, Allyssa Leen O’Shea rock solid at centre back with support from Cathy Palmer, surging runs from Kate Collins and hard work from Laura Kelly. Our midfielders Roisin Rahilly and Keelin Enright got through a trojan amount of work and kept going until the end. Ella Quirke and Ciara Palmer put in their best performances of the year so far and we’re huge thorns in SG’s side, while Rachel Creedon and Emma Daly did a lot of running and interconnecting the play. The inside line of Jill Quirke, Anna Collins, Emma Leen, Charlotte Geary, Niamh Lynch and Roisin Raggett worked hard to close down the SG defense and link up with the rest of our forwards.
Onto next Wednesday night when we welcome a very strong Austin Stacks side to Ballymacelligott. Great performance ladies, we are very proud of you.
U14 Girls
Round 4 of Division One of the Trophyworld County League
Ballymacelligott 5:09
Cromane 3:09
Our u14 Girls returned to winning ways on Sunday evening last when they had a good victory over Cromane in Glenbeigh in Round 4 of Division One of the Trophyworld County League.
Exchanges were tight in the first quarter but a Laura Sugrue goal before the water break saw us lead on a 1-3 to 0-3 scoreline.
We proceeded to dominate the rest of the half and goals from Laura Sugrue and Orla O Connor gave us a 3-5 to 0-3 halftime lead.
By the end of the third quarter we had further extended our advantage 4-8 to 0-5 with Kate Collins raising the green flag.
However the home side came storming into the game and added 2-3 to leave just 6 points between the sides midway through the final quarter.
A Rachel Griffin goal helped ease the Ballymac nerves and while Cromane goaled from a penalty with the last kick of the game our Girls deservedly held out for victory on a 5-9 to 3-9 scoreline.
Overall this was an outstanding team performance with every Girl putting in a massive effort to ensure victory.
Next weekend sees us on the road yet again, this time Beaufort provide the opposition on Sunday next.
