First round of our return to Division 3 of the County League in a windswept Ballymac saw us come up against old South Kerry rivals Dromid Peares. Over the years has seen many battles with Dromid and today was no different.
In a game of 2 half’s, due to the weather conditions saw enthusiasm held back by resolve. Ballymac came out the mopre enthusiastic which saw them race into a 0-11 to 0-5 half time lead. Some great work around the middle of the field by Dan O Shea and Cian Counihan partnered with some well taken points from the inform P McCarthy, V Horan & Eanna Reidy. Dromid were marshaled well by a teak tough Ballymac defense who turned over ball after ball. Dromid kept in touch with some well taken frees which left Ballymac go in at the short whistle with a well deserved lead.
Ballymac started the second half with a well taken point from Tomas O Connor but Dromids resolve came to the fore with them dropping back limiting time and space for the Ballymac forwards. The South Kerry team were able to convert some solid defending into attack quite quickly and saw them outscore Ballymac in the second half by 0-8 points to 0-2 and leaving the final score level at 0-13 apiece.
Ballymac may feel disappointed with giving up such a lead but we could easily have come away with nothing only for some great resolve in hanging on in a game which previously may have slipped away. Well done to all players and management in getting off to a positive start and gaining a point from a tough South Kerry outfit.
Next up for Ballymac in Round 2 is another tough game against Fossa next weekend.
