Senior County league Round 4
Ballydonoghue 1-11 Ballymac 1-18
Ballymac took on Ballydonoghue in round 4 of the County Senior League in a windswept but beautiful Cooland last Saturday night. We played into a strong breeze in the first half but some excellent support play and hard work saw Ballymac go into the break 3 points up 1-07 0-07.
Excellent work by Luke Sweeney at the Centre back complimented by the ever hard working midfield pair Daniel O’Shea and Cian Counihan provided the platform for some fine scores by Vinnie Horan and Aidan Breen. Vinnie was unlucky not to find the target on a few occasions and Aidan did manage to finish off and excellent move when his shot found the bottom corner.
Half time score: Ballymac 1-07 to Ballydonoghue 0-7
We took to the field in the second half with a good strong breeze to our backs and duly added 4 unanswered points to go 7 points clear. Ballydonoghue never gave up and tacked on 2 more points. A high ball into the edge of the 21 saw the ball break to their full forward Padráig Lyons who hammered it home to leave just 2 points between the teams. Some excellent pressure around the middle third restricted Ballydonoghue to just 2 more scores. Aidan Breen was in fine form from open play and from frees and contributed to Ballymac leading by 7 points at the last whistle. The final score was: Ballymac 1-18 to Ballydonoghue 1-11.

Blue Team Division 4
The boys under 12 (blue team) got back on the winning trail last Tuesday evening against Milltown – Castlemaine. Played in glorious sunshine, work rate, sheer determination and a good attitude ensured this fine win. All players played brilliantly on the night. Tommy Palmer in goals was solid as a rock. Jack o’ Connor, Michael Culloty, Cian McCarthy and Luke Horgan were outstanding in defence. Diarmaid Galvin and Sean Rice worked tirelessly at midfield. It was the scoring ability of our forwards, however, that was most impressive. Michael Prendergast, the brilliant Niall Collins, Raymond Lowe and Sam Mansfield were linking up well. We were one point behind at half time. The introduction of Evan Boyle, Alvero Marquez and Aiden Horgan in the second half had a huge impact on this game. The boys raised their game to win in the end on a score line of Ballymac 3-11 to Milltown Castlemaine’s 2-5. Well done lads on a well-deserved victory. The blue team played again last saturday away to Firies and were beaten on the evening. The team were short a few regulars and this reduced our team options considerably. Firies were the better team over the hour and deserved their win. Again, inconsistency in our play was a factor but the lads tried hard against tough opposition. Michael Culloty and Luke Horgan were again impressive and Sean Rice excellent in midfield. Niall Collins tried hard up front but the forwards never got going. Scores were slow in coming. Firies finished strongly and won on a scoreline of 4-11 to 1-10. Well done lads on a great effort. Ballymac U12 boys will take part in the Diarmuid O’ Brien memorial football blitz in Newmarket again this year. We will be looking to make it three in a row when we look to defend the trophy we won the last two years. The blitz will take place on the 24th of June.
Gold Team Division 6 We travelled to Gneeveguila on a beautiful sunny Sunday afternoon for what was to turn out to be a very tough encounter against a strong Gneeveguila side. We started off really well and had 4points on the board before Gneeveguila registered their first score. The lads went in at half time leading by 5points and this should have been more only for a few mistakes. After the half time team talk the boys came out determined to do their best and they did just that by playing some brilliant off the shoulder football. We ran out winners by 6 points in the end on a score line of Gneeveguila 5-10 to Ballymac 5-16. It has to be said that the lads stood up to everything that was thrown at them, which will stand to every one of them. We had another game last Sunday evening against Castleisland Desmonds away from home with the weather being very poor on the evening. We came up a bit short on the evening to lose on a score line of 5-09 to 4-05. Squad: Conor Martin, Cathal White, Evan o’ Brien, Tom Long, Jamie Burke, Jack Slattery, Conor Daly, Alex Riordan, Jamie Lynch, Shane Gilroy, Micháel Savage, Sean Rice, Niall Collins .

FAOI 10
The academy took place last Sunday morning for our Under 9 boys as our older boys were playing in the County league later that evening against Firies.
Ballymac entered an U10 team (U10 on 31st of July) to play in the community games last bank holiday Monday. The games were played in Connolly Park and the boys performed very well on a difficult day for football. We played Ardfert/Kilmoyley in our First game and the boys won on a score line of 3-03 to 2-03. In our next match, we played against Rock St/Caherslee. We played very well in this game to win on a score line of 6-05 to 0-02. Our final game was against Spa Fenit Barrow and this was a very close game at half time with the score line being 0-01 to 0-01. However, in the second half Spa Fenit Barrow scored a few quick goals and they ran out comfortable winners on a score line of 3-04 to 0-02.
Our boys performed very well and many of this young team are eligible to play next year. Well done to the mentors and players and the support on the day.
We play in the next phase of the Go Games next Thursday night the 08th of June at 7.00pm in Currow. All players please arrive by 6.40 in club colours. There will be no academy next Sunday morning due to the Kerry game against Clare later that day.
