Ballymac 4-18 Beale/Ballyduff 1-02
Round 3 Junior C Championship
17th August 2020
We now go 3 from 3 with another outstanding team performance from our girls. We started much faster than previous games. Which proves all the girls are doing their best. Veronica O’Donnell played a great defensive game from cornerback with great help on the wing from Millie Luck.
Up front we kept control of the ball with Ellie McElligott given their full back line a torrid time.
Eve Creedon and Aisling O’Connell took some magnificent scores from play.Helped by Lisa Curran and Kate O’Connor who kept moving with great runs.
Our strongest asset was winning their kick-outs. This really put Beale Ballyduff under pressure along with Cora Savage and Alyssa Leen O’Shea punishing at every opportunity.
When Beale Ballyduff did make an attack we were in safe hands with Roisin Long and Niamh Rahilly strong and confident in the fullback line.
Later in the game we made some changes and brought on Mary Anne Fleming, Eimear Curran, Holly Geary and Lorna Daly who all contributed to the game with some fine scores.
It was great to have Caoimhe Carroll back from injury. We also wish Emily O’Brien, Cáit Rice and Emma Sweeney a speedy recovery from injury.

Minor Ladies
Ballymac 1-03 Cromane/Laune Rangers 2-19
Round 4 Division 1 County League
21st August 2020
On a wet and windy Friday night, our minor ladies had to face the might
of Cromane and Laune Rangers. Due to injuries and work
commitments, we were forced to line out with just 15 players and after
15 mins we were down to 14, after Maryanne Fleming damaged her
hamstring. We started the scoring with a great point by Eve Creedon
who scored all our points tonight. The girls worked tirelessly and moved
the ball well up the field. The defense was under considerable pressure
but did really well and got plenty of blocks in, as well as turnovers. The
opposition was able to swap on and off their players to keep them
fresh. Ella Quirke got the goal that the ladies so deserved and overall
you would have to be proud of the workrate and commitment of the
ladies tonight.
Goalkeeper Kerry Hennessy made a few good saves, Full Back Line of
Lorna Daly, Roisin Long and Grainne Galvin were tight to their players
and did a great job under huge pressure. The Half Back Line of Caoimhe
Carroll, Sinead McKeown and Alyssa Leen O’Shea got on a lot of ball
and worked it well down the field while also having to track back
continuously. Joint Captains and midfield pairing Ellie McElliggott and
Eve Creedon were the stars of the night never giving up and showed an
incredible workrate throughout the whole game. The forwards Lisa
Curran, Keelin Enright, Ella Quirke, Emma Leen and Kate O’Connor put in a big shift in running, closing down and trying to make openings, Emma also did well at cornerback in the second half.
Special thanks to all who helped out tonight, Dave Keane, Linda Daly,
Emma Sweeney, Una Kerins, Robyn Whyte and Siobhan Leen O’Shea.
Great to see such involvement with the ladies.
Next onto our final game, the local derby versus Castleisland Desmond’s.
U16
Ballymac 5-07 Firies 1-11
Round 3 County League
Wednesday 19th August
On a fine, but overcast evening in Farranfore, the Ballymacelligott U16 Ladies gathered for their meeting
with Firies. This was a revenge mission as Firies had denied the ladies promotion to Division 1 previously.
Firies raced into a two point lead, but our ladies replied with a point from Keelin Enright and a goal from Emer
Curran direct from a free kick. This took us into the first half water break leading 1-1 to 0-2, though we should
have been further ahead as we had dominated possession but missed a few chances. Our defense was
rock solid with Alyssa Leen O’Shea leading from centre back ably supported on the left flank by Cathy Palmer and on the right by Kate Collins.
The second quarter of the first half continued the same possession wise, but this period the ladies were clinical.
We scored 3-3 to just 0-1 in reply, the three pointers coming from Anna Collins, Ciara Palmer and Ella Quirke. Shonagh Griffin and Roisin Rahilly had completely taken over at Midfield and our full back line of Abby Leahy, Grainne Galvin and Lorna Daly snuffed out any real threat from the Firies forward line. Emma Leen got through a mountain of work at full forward with Niamh Lynch also working really well. Kerry Hennessy in goal, dealt well with all balls that came her way. Into the second half and we used the rest of our bench as all girls got a game. Firies came back into the game and our defense came under a lot more pressure, where Ciara Kerins in her first game back from a broken foot, thundered into the match. We scored 1-3 in the second half with a goal from Rachel Creedon after good play from the forwards including Rachel Griffin, Jill Quirke and
Roisin Raggett.
This result now means that Our Ladies will make the County Semi-Finals.
Squad on the night was Kerry Hennessy, Lorna Daly (Joint
Captain), Grainne Galvin, Abby Leahy, Kate Collins, Alyssa
Leen O’Shea, Cathy Palmer, Roisin Rahilly (0-2), Shonagh
Griffin, Ciara Palmer (1-0), Keelin Enright (0-3), Ella
Quirke (1-1), Niamh Lynch, Emma Leen, Emer Curran (1-
0), Anna Collins (1-0), Jill Quirke, Rachel Griffin, Rachel
Creedon (1-1), Roisin Raggett, Ciara Kerins.
