On a cold wet opening night for the St Brendan’s League opening game, both Ballymac and Na Gaeil served up a thrilling contest with men in blue and gold prevailing on a scoreline of 1-15 to 2-10.
Played at John Mitchels on an excellent surface Ballymac were slow to start and an early penalty followed by the loss of goalkeeper Alan Bonn to injury left them facing an uphill battle. However, excellent support play and driving runs by the likes of Cian Counihan and Daniel O’Shea allied to improved shooting brought the game into the melting pot.
Another Na Gaeil goal stretched the oppositions advantage before Ballymac rallied late in the first half scoring 1-1 in turnovers.
The second half was nip and tuck throughout with Brian Lonergan making two excellent saves to keep the game in the balance. Scores from Aidan Breen and Vinny Horan stretched Ballymac’s lead before a late push by Na Gaeil was foiled by Ballymac winning two late kickouts to seal the victory.
Well done to the panel of players and Management Team. Ballymac Abú
