Our U14 Community Games Football team made history on Sunday last. They are the first Ballymacelligott GAA football team to reach an All Ireland Final and come home to the club with Silver medals. It is some achievement and everyone in the Parish and Club are rightly proud of this bunch of players.
All Ireland day started off for the girls when they secured a 6-07 to 0-04 victory over Knockcroghery (Roscommon) in the semi-final.
They then face Kinnegad (Westmeath) in the All Ireland Final.
All Ireland Final V Kinnegad
The final whistle was heartbreak for our Girls going down by the minimum(5-5 to 3-10).
At half time we were down by 12 and at the beginning of the final quarter faced a 7 point deficit playing against the wind.
At one stage of the final quarter we actually led by a point but for Kinnegad hit for two points to re establish their lead.
The girls were presented with their silver medals and it is a fantastic achievement. The girls did the Community proud and the memory of this day will last a lifetime.
The mentors and coaches, who as well as the girls, put in so much work and time into this great adventure are also to be credited. It was some achievement!
Later, last night a homecoming was held in Ballymac GAA Club grounds.
There was a wonderful crowd to welcome home the girls.
Thanks to the girls, their mentors and parents who have brought such huge joy and pride to us all across the summer. Ballymacelligott is rightly proud of your accomplishments!!
A big thank you to The Ballymacelligott Community Games Committee for their organisation of the homecoming.
It was a great end to this wonderful day for everyone involved.
