It was an excellent evening for football in Ballymacelligott on Friday when Ballymac hosted Churchill in a crucial Round 2 clash of Group 2 of the Junior Club Championship.
The game kicked off with a bang for Ballymac, who swiftly netted two goals before the lotto sellers could even pack up. The home team held onto their lead until the final whistle, despite a spirited second-half performance by Churchill that saw them outscore Ballymac. But those two early goals were a tough mountain to climb.
Aidan Breen opened the scoring with a point, followed by a goal. Aidan was involved again with Donal Daly to help Vinnie Horan score another. Donal Daly popped over a point, and Ballymac were 2-02 in the lead with eight minutes on the clock. Donal Daly scored another point before Churchill’s Darragh O’Sullivan opened the scoring for Churchill. Both Donal Daly and Darragh O’Sullivan scored a point for their sides. Michael Herlihy and Michéal Reidy added a point each for Ballymac. Churchill added a point just before Aidan Breen dispossessed Churchill on the ground and walked the ball into the back of the net. Churchill scored their last point of the half before Ballymac added two points from Captain Vinnie Horan.
The Half Time score: Ballymacelligott 3-07 Churchill 0-4
Daragh Regan’s point opened the scoring for Ballymac in the second half. Darragh O’Sullivan followed with the opening point for Churchill. Two Points from Michael Herlihy and Daragh Regan extended Ballymac’s lead from 3-08 to 0-5 with 23 minutes left to full-time. Churchill scored a point from Ivan Parker, and Darragh O’Sullivan hit the back of the net to bring Churchill’s score to 1-06. Vinnie Horan and Niall Collins
added two points for Ballymac. Darragh O’Sullivan and Vinnie Horan added a point for each of their teams. With 10 minutes left, the score was Ballymac 3-12 Churchill 1-09. In the 28th minute, Churchill was awarded a penalty, and Darragh O’Sullivan scored a goal. This was Churchill’s last score of the game. Maurice O’Connell scored the final point for Ballymac.

Well Done to Jeremiah Lynch
On Sunday, 11th August, our hard-working club referee, Jeremiah Lynch, reached a milestone. He refereed a game on the Valentia GAA pitch, the last pitch in the County on his list. Over the past twenty-five years, he has refereed a game on every other pitch in the County of Kerry. He debuted on the Old John Mitchels pitch (Champers) in Boherbee when he refereed a U14 game. a quarter of a century ago. It’s an excellent service to the club and the county. Well done, Jeremiah.

Congratulations Ian on winning the Ballymac GAA Lotto Jackpot
Last Friday night, Ian O’Sullivan was presented with his € 8,300 Lotto Jackpot winning cheque. John Rice, Chairman of Ballymacelligott GAA Club, handed over the cheque to Ian in Glenduff House.
Ian’s lucky numbers were from a quick pick he purchased four weeks ago at Ballymac GAA Pitch. Ian is a great supporter of our lotto and recently sponsored a set of Jerseys for our Senior B team.
It has been a very busy and happy few weeks for Ian, as he, Muireann, and Oran welcomed Iarla to the family! This is a double celebration for the O’Sullivan family. Congratulations to you all and we thank you and are very grateful for your support.
