Senior Men
The Kerry Petroleum: Premier Junior Football Club Championship Group 2 Round 3
St Senan’s V Ballymacelligott
Date: Friday, August 16th, 2024.
Venue: Mountcoal.
The weather was perfect at Mountcoal with the bright late Summer Sun. Ballymacelligott had a great start with a stiff breeze in the first half, but things got a bit slippery when it rained in the second half. It was an enthralling game from start to finish.
Ballymac opened the scoring with a point from a free from Aidan Breen. St Senan’s answered with two points, and then Niall Collins struck the back of the net for Ballymac. St Senan’s settled back into the game and scored a point immediately. Vinnie Horan added a point for Ballymac, and Cillian Trant added one for Senan’s. Tadhg Brick scored a goal, and Paudie Quill immediately replied with one for St Senan’s. With 15 minutes left to go to half-time, the score was 1-04 2-02 in favour of Ballymac.
Despite a point by St Senan’s in the 16th Minute, Ballymac dominated the last quarter of the first half. Aidan Breen scored two points from frees. Then Darragh Sweeney punched a ball that had been kicked by Aidan Breen and punched by Maurice O’Connell towards the goal, and Darragh got it into the back of the net. Donal Daly scored a point and another from a free from Aidan Breen, and Ballymac were in the lead 3-06 to 1-5 with six minutes left on the clock. Adam Sheehy pointed for Ballymac, St Senan’s added three points, and Aidan Breen scored the last point, from a free, of the half for Ballymac.
The Half-Time score: St Senan’s 1-08 Ballymacelligott 3-08
With fifteen minutes to go, St. Senan’s narrowed the scoreline from 2-10 to 3-11. A win or a draw for the North Kerry side would see them top the group, and they would not give up that target easily. Ballymac’s three points in this period came from two frees from Aidan Breen and one from play from Michéal Reidy.
These last fifteen minutes were played with the same intensity as the first quarter of the match. Thomas Dillon scored a point for Senan’s, followed by a point from Danial O’Shea and a goal from Captain Vinnie Horan for Ballymac. Two points followed for St Senan’s from Cillian Trant and Seanie McElligott, Michael Herlihy added a point for Ballymac and Senan’s answered that with one of their own. Daragh Regan and Donal Daly scored the last two points from Ballymac, and Senan’s added one in between. The final whistle blew. It was a tough game to lose for St Senan’s with a scoreline of 2-15, but credit to all the Ballymac players who played. It resulted from hard work and teamwork and was a joy to watch. Credit goes to both sets of players who served up a memorable game and showcased all the best in football.
Everyone in Ballymac GAA sends their best wishes to Jonathan Keane and his new bride, Máire, who got married on Saturday, 17th August. Jonathan is a member of our senior squad and an integral part of our Senior A and B teams all year.

Academy
This week our Academy moved temporarily to the AstroTurf at the MTU where our U8 & U10 Girls, and our U5’s had the run of the pitch with the U7s and U9s away playing Go Games. Thanks, as always, to the coaches for training our grassroots teams.
