Senior Team
The Credit Union SFL: Division 1 Round 7
Castleisland Desmonds 1-11 Ballymacelligott: 3-12
Shortly before the referee blew the final whistle on Sunday Ballymacelligott’s Michael Herlihy had scored the last point of the game securing the fifth win on the trot and 10 points on the league table for this hard-working team.
The hosts started the game with all guns blazing and but for two good block downs could have more on the scoreboard before Tomas Lynch scored a point. Two points from Daire Keane and Aidan Breen (F) gave Ballymac the lead. Another point from Desmonds Cian O’Connor and they kept the pressure up. A point-blank save by full-back Dan Shea was a great relief to the visitors and followed by a great interception by Tadhg Brick who passed to Vinnie Horan and the foul on Vinnie resulted in a point when Aidan Breen took the free.
Fifteen minutes on the clock and the visitors had the minimum lead. Aidan Breen and Cathal Dunne were winning the kick outs and it showed. Niall Collins got a sweet pass from Daire Keane and scored a point followed by a point from Adam Joy and Vinnie Horan.
Desmonds then had a glorious ten minutes and scored four points without reply and the teams were level. Then in the 28th minute, Dan Shea caught a great ball in the back line, passed it to Tadhg Brick who moved it on and transferred it to Vinnie Horan who shot for goal. The shot was saved but Vinnie was there for the return and made no mistake and rattled the back of the net. Two more points followed for Ballymac from Daire Keane and Dan Shea to give the half-time score: Castleisland Desmonds 0-06 to Ballymacelligott 1-08.
Ballymac added two points from Niall Collins and one from Aidan Breen and Desmonds added three before Desmonds Adam O’Donoghue scored a goal with 15 minutes left.
A quick point from the home side and the score was 1-10 to 1-11. This was a critical juncture for both teams. Neither wanted to relent and the play was furious. Desmonds were down to 14 due to a black card. Adam Sheehy missed a goal chance and Brian Lonergan caught a vital ball at the Ballymac goalmouth.
Shortly after Niall Collins was taken down, the result was a goal from Adam Sheehy after many passes.
Desmonds replied with a point before Michael Herlihy caught a vital ball in the Ballymac half-back line and passed to Captain Vinnie Horan who saw Daire Keane free and another goal for Ballymac ensued. The final point of the game was scored from play by Michael Herlihy. Final Score: Castleisland Desmonds 1-11 Ballymacelligott: 3-12
This was a great team display. Everyone played their part. The backs were outstanding with Dan Shea having an excellent game and Cian Counihan working tirelessly off the ball and making his mark mainly in the second half. Aidan Breen and Cathal Dunne were masterful at centre field and all the forwards worked well. This squad of players and management have worked hard all year and it’s just great to be second on the Div 1 table.
Ballymacelligott: Christy Leen, Michael Sweeney, Dan O Shea (0-1), Diarmuid Galvin, Josh O Keeffe, Tadhg Brick, Cian Counihan, Aidan Breen (0-3), Cathal Dunne, Niall Collins (0-3), Daire Keane (1-2), Adam Sheehy (1-0), Adam Joy (0-1), Vinny Horan (Captain) (1-1), Brian Lonergan
Substitutes used: Michael Herlihy (0-1), Brian Cassidy & Conor Brick.

Senior Ladies
Donal Curtin Cup Round 3
Ballymac 3-15 Castleisland Desmonds 0-10
On a glorious evening in Ballymac our senior ladies had a very good win against our near neighbours Castleisland Desmonds. The girls were at it from the off and raced into an early 1-05 to 1pt lead. The football being played was of a very high quality and our handling and decision making matched that. The defence and midfield were winning the majority of the battles and the forward unit was also moving very well. HT score 2-10 to 0-08.
Desmonds came out fighting after the break but our girls were ready for them and in a frantic opening 15 mins neither team scored. From there on Ballymac took over and tagged on some great scores. All round a super win and one that kick starts our season in which there are many tough battles ahead.

Minor Boys
Ballymac GAA -v- Ardfert GAA Minor Central Region – Semi Final – Div 2
Ballymacelligott GAA 4-10 (22)
Ardfert GAA 1-11 (14)
Our Minor team played in the semi-final of the Central Region Division 2 competition in glorious early summer conditions in our home pitch on Monday Evening, May 15th.
In the first half, it was clear that the Ballymac boys were focused with some great football on display at times. A low bullet of a shot to the bottom right corner by the powerful Shane Gilroy set the boys on our way early on. Jack Joy also put away a well converted shot from the penalty spot. At Half Time, Ballymac led the visitors by 2-05 to 0-4
To the great credit of our lads, they continued with the same energy and stylish football that the home support had been treated to in the opening 30 minutes of football. To Ardfert’s credit, they rallied somewhat but were never close enough to threaten our lads. Further goals from Shane Gilroy & Jack Joy helped seal the deal for the home side.
A Special message of distinction must go to our man between the sticks Cian Harris who put his body on the line literally with outstanding saves.
This victory ensures our boys qualify for the Div 2 Central Region final. Details to be confirmed later. Congratulations to them on a fine performance.
Jack Joy (2-02), Shane Gilroy (2-01) Jamie Burke (0-03), Eoin Moriarty (0-03) Cathal White (0-01)
U16 Girls
Our u16 Ladies team welcomed Kilcummin to Ballymac for a Round 4 Co League game.
We dominated possession from the throw in but were unable to fully capitalise and only led at the break by 1-2 to 0-1.
An improved second half scoring wise saw us run out victors on a 3-9 to 0-2 scoreline.
This win should ensure a semi-final for the Girls.
Best wishes to the players on the Panel who are sitting the Junior Certificate in the coming weeks.

U14 Girls:
Ballymacelligott U14 girls played Na Gaeil in our last game of the Non-County Players league we got off to a good start with early scores settling the team. They continued with some good passing moves throughout the game and ran out easy winners on a score line of 4:08 to 0:04. Well done girls
U13 Boys
Ballymac u13 Blue Team played at home to Beaufort in 2nd Game in Div 5 this Sunday.
We got off to the perfect start with Harvey winning the throw in and after bursting through the middle he fed Adrian who slotted the ball to the back of the net. With our tails up all the boys put in huge work, tackling hard all over the pitch and winning turnovers. Some lovely link play down the right between Tadhg and Daniel, with Flynn and Darragh also making good runs helped open space for Jack Hobbart to fist in the second goal. Harvey and Eric were putting serious pressure on their kickouts which took the pressure off our defence. When the ball did get to their forwards, great work from the likes of Ciaran and both Gearoid kept their scores to a minimum. We got to half time 4-2 to 0-2 in front.
We continued our work rate throughout the second half, with some great passing to players in better positions which lead to some fine points from the likes of Patrick, Tadhg and Eric. Beaufort to their credit kept plugging away and the full back got a fine solo goal. Final scoreline 5-9 to 1-4. Thanks to Beaufort for a competitive game. We are away to Ballyduff next Sunday.
U12 Girls
U12 North Kerry Div 3 Final
Knock/Brosna v Ballymac
On Thursday last our u12 ladies travelled to Brosna for the final of the div 3 North Kerry league.
A 2-point loss against the same opposition at the same venue in an earlier round, gave us the belief that this could be our night.
We started really well. It was clear that we were up for this game.
However, against the run of play, a lucky goal for Knock/Brosna early on, gave them
the advantage.
For 3 quarters of this game, we were right there with them. Never more than a point or 2 in it.
Our girls were playing some super football. Our defence was really on top. A feature of this game was the number of block downs made successfully by our girls, all over the pitch.
We combined really well at midfield and up in the forwards, but on at least 2 occasions, 2 certain goals were denied by the woodwork …had these gone in, who knows??
We tried so so hard, but in sport, you need luck, and luck had very much deserted us on the night.
The final quarter was not ours and saw our proud defence breached, and the opposition got in for the goal that they had been desperately searching for.
The final whistle sounded much to the heartbreak of our warriors.
We gave it our all. We tried our best.
We can’t ask for any more.
We look forward to our next game. Captains on the night were Emma Lynch and Katie Lenihan
