Senior Teams
The Credit Union SFL Division 1 Round 1
Killarney Legion 1-09 Ballymacelligott 1-10
Venue: Killarney Legion. Date: 23rd March 24
The first game of the County League always generates excitement. Despite the poor weather and playing conditions this year was no exception. This first-round game’s second half was thrilling and heart-stopping. Ballymac led from ten minutes into the half and with grit and determination held on to win by a point.
Killarney Legion had two points on the scoreboard before Donal Daly scored Ballymac’s first point after eight minutes of play. After fifteen minutes of play, Vinnie Horan and Daire Keane added two to give Ballymac a one-point lead.
Darragh Lyne and Ryan O’Grady added two for Legion before Vinnie Horan scored the last point of the half. Both sets of players made the best of the underfoot conditions and we were not expecting the exciting second half they served up.
Half Time Score: Killarney Legion 0-4 Ballymacelligott 0-4.
Ryan O’Grady scored the first point of the half for Legion. Vinnie Horan shot a great ball passed the keeper and almost immediately Daire Keane added a point. It was looking good for the Ballymac side. Ryan O’Grady then scored a goal for the Killarney side and after five minutes of dramatic play, the teams were level at 1-5 apiece.
The Ballymac lads were not rattled and kept driving scoring three points in a row from Vinnie Horan, Daire Keane, and Aidan Breen. Conor Keane came on for Legion and scored a point. With fifteen minutes left, Ballymac was in the lead 1-6 to 1-8.
Legion narrowed the lead with a point from Conor Keane. After great work by Darragh Regan intercepting a Legion run Vinnie Horan scored a point, followed by another from Aidan Breen. Ballymac’s three-point lead was brought down to one by a point each from Legions Eoghan O’Sullivan and Finbarr Murphy.
From Christy Leen in goals, all players including the two substitutes played their part in grinding out this hard-fought win. It was a great team effort, and that strong team camaraderie was critical to the win tonight.

The Credit Union SFL Div 6B Round 1
Spa Killarney 1-13 Ballymacelligott 0-15
Venue: Spa Date: 24th March 24
2024 is the first time that Ballymacelligott Club had two teams playing in the same season in the County Senior Football League.
Today we fielded a team in Div 6A having fielded a team in Division 1 last night. The players wearing the Ballymac Jersey today were a mixture of minor players from the past two years and seasoned players. Michéal Savage made his debut with the senior team. Our Club has been in existence for over 100 years, and it is a proud weekend for us all. Players, mentors, and especially for everyone involved with all of these players, since they kicked their first ball at Under 6. They have all contributed to this day. These are the history makers.
A goal by Spa in the 16th Minute, against the run of play, brought them back into the game, and in the end, that goal was the difference.
Maurice O’Connell and Barry Lyons opened the scoring for Ballymac with two points. Spa replied with a point. Four points on the trot from Michael Herlihy, Cathal White, Michael Hoare, and Barry Lyons gave Ballymac a five-point lead. David Spillane scored a point for Spa and shortly afterwards a high ball into the Ballymac goalmouth resulted in a goal for Spa. Spa added another point and the teams were level. Michael Herlihy and Maurice O’Connell pointed from two frees. Spa replied with a point and added two more from David Spillane and Aidan Cronin before the halftime whistle.
Half Time: Spa Killarney: 1-06 Ballymacelligott 0-8.
Shane Gilroy opened the scoring in the second half with a fine point. Michael Herlihy added a point from a free. Then he got a great ball from Sky Lynch and scored again. Spa reduced the lead by a point and would have had another goal but for the heroics of Pádraig Laide who saved a point-blank shot from David Spillane. The teams were level again with fifteen minutes left when David Spillane scored a point for the Killarney side.
Michael Herlihy scored another point. Spa scored a point and Michéal Savage for Ballymac scored his first point in the Senior Football League. Spa scored another point from David Spillane. Sky Lynch and Barry Lyons with a point each leveled the game again. Two more points from Spa before the final whistle gave them the victory.
It was a tough battle with both teams working hard. David Spillane, Donnagh Fahy, and Aidan Cronin were impressive for Spa. Ballymac team were a credit to the club playing lovely football and working exceptionally hard for each other. Michael Herlihy, Maurice O’Connell, Cathal White, and Thespian Captain Barry Lyons were leaders on the field. We send our best wishes to Diarmuid Lynch who was injured for today’s game.

Senior Ladies
Credit Union Donal Curtin Round 1
Ballymacelligott LGFA v Clounmacon Moyvane
This Sunday our Ladies Senior Team travelled out to Knockanure GAA to take on a fully loaded Clounmacon Moyvane team on their home patch. The game was played in atrocious conditions with the rain incessant making handling extremely tough. After 15 minutes the scores stood at 3 points (Ellie McElliogott, Jill Quirke and Kate Collins) to 3 points, then from a poor turnover when we had a player free out on the flank, Clounmacon Moyvane scored a fortuitous goal which changed the game. We got hit for 1-2 very quickly after that leaving us 2-4 to 3 points down. Ellie scored another point to narrow the gap and leave the scores at 2-4 to 0-4.
We made a few positional changes at half time and with an improved defensive performance we finished the game 2-8 to 1-6, despite playing into a very forceful wind. The second half scores came from Aishling O’Connell with a goal and points from Roisin Rahilly and Kate Collins.
Squad is as follows Kerry Hennessy, Robyn White, Grainne Galvin, Niamh Rahilly, Anna Collins, Laura Kelly, Una Kerins Morrissey, Emily O’Brien, Aisling O’Connell, Roisin Rahilly, Ellie McElliogott, Kate Collins, Emma Daly, Tina Quinn and Jill Quirke.
