Ballymacelligott GAA club notes Sunday 6th August 2023
by Joanne Long PRO
Senior Men
Our Senior men begin their Club Championship campaign on Friday evening
In round 1 of the Kerry Petroleum Junior Premier Championship, we play Brosna.
The game will be on in Cordal on Friday evening at 7.30pm
It would be great to have a big Ballymac support at the game to support our Lads.
We are in Group B with Annascaul, Brosna and Castlegregory
Senior Ladies
Our Senior Ladies took on Clounmacon/Moyvane in the Division Two semi-final of the Donal Curtin Cup on Monday evening last in Clounmacon.
This was very much a game of two halves with the home side dominating the opening half hour going in at the break leading 2-5 to 1-2 our goal coming from Emma Daly, getting a touch to an Eve Creedon delivery early in the half.
Whatever management said to the team at half time certainly had the desired effect as Ballymac came out in the second half a different team and playing their best football of the Year clawed themselves back in to the game, a goal from Jill Quirke and another late in the game from Kate Collins saw them lead on a 3-7 to 2-8 scoreline, however the home side struck for 1-1 in the final minute to take the win.
It was a great achievement to reach the semi-final having come up from Division Three last Year.
Focus now shifts to Championship which begins on August 21st with a trip to Cromane.
U16 Ladies
Our u16 side made the trip to Gallerus on Wednesday evening last to play Corca Dhuibhne in the semi-final of Co League Division 4.
The West Kerry side proved too strong for us on the night and ran out deserved victors, full credit to our Girls who gave it their all and now look forward to the commencement of the North Kerry League in the coming weeks.
Kerry Minors
Saturday last was an historic day for the Club as we had a huge involvement in Kerry’s victory over Sligo in the All-Ireland B Final.
Roisin Rahilly played a captain’s part with a superb display at centre half back while Keelin Enright played her part in the victory when introduced, also on the panel was Kerry Hennessey who played a number of games in the run up to the final.
Joint managers were Donal Rahilly and Mike Broderick and their months of hard work and dedication to the squad certainly bore fruit on the day.
A large support travelled from the parish to Nenagh, many thanks to all who made the journey.
A homecoming was held at our Grounds for the Panel, huge gratitude to all who turned up on the evening and also to all organised this event at short notice.
Kerry Seniors
Good luck to the Kerry Ladies Senior team who take on Dublin in the All-Ireland Final on Sunday next, a bus from the Club will travel to support the team in Croke Park.
