Ballymacelligott GAA club notes Sunday 8th October 2023

Senior Ladies
Bon Secours Junior A Championship Semi Final
A breathtaking game of football played in great conditions was witnessed by the large attendance this Sunday. A high noon showdown it really was with just the minimum separating these two evenly matched teams after extra time.
After just two minutes Clounmacon Moyvane took the lead with a well taken goal from a poor turnover by Ballymacelligott, but just two minutes later Aisling O’Connell goaled for Ballymac to level it up. This see saw continued for the rest of the half, with a penalty for Clounmacon Moyvane put away expertly by Erin Finucane and a Rachel Creedon goal for Ballymac after Kate Collins hit the post. At halftime Clounmacon Moyvane led by 2-5 to 2-3.
The second half was just the same, as Ballymac came back to level, but Clounmacon Moyvane scored another penalty from Erin Finucane, but back came Ballymac again to level. Cora Savage re-appeared in a Ballymac team for the first time in over two years, after an arduous recovery from an ACL injury, to great reception and it was Cora who was the one to level the scores. At this juncture though we missed a couple of chances to take the lead, as time ticked close to the full-time whistle. Clounmacon Moyvane were playing the last 10 minutes without the yellow carded Muirne Wall. The game ended Ballymacelligott 2-9 Clounmacon Moyvane 3-6.
Extra time was then played with 10 minutes a side and two tired sides again put on a show of end-to-end football. Clounmacon Moyvane again started the brighter, scoring two points in quick succession but Cora Savage replied with two, 1 from play and 1 from a free. And again, we were level with just one final ten minutes to play. Erin Finucane scored from another free but then Kate Collins scored a great goal to put Ballymac up by 2 points (the only time we led all game). Clounmacon Moyvane responded with a point, the minimum in it once more. Heartbreak next when star Clounmacon Moyvane player Kelly Enright, who was well marshalled all day by Rachel Griffin, popped up to score the all-important goal and gave Clounmacon Moyvane the lead. Ballymacelligott had one last chance with a free that was to be the last play of the game. Cora Savage stepped up, took a breath and unleashed a fantastic effort that just went over the bar instead of under.
Heartbreak for our ladies, but they have done the Ballymacelligott Jersey proud and gave a fantastic performance under huge pressure. This is a very young side and if the group stick together then the Junior A Championship will be there for them.
