BALLYMAC GO TOP OF COUNTY LEAGUE

BALLYMAC 2-14
CHURCHILL 1-12

This County League round 8 game was held at Ballymac on Sat night. The home team opened brightly and were three points ahead after five minutes through Eoin O’ Siocru and two Aiden Breen frees. Churchill full forward Ger McCarthy responded with a free and this was followed by a great individual point by wing back Mike Leen for Ballymac. Pa O’ Connor had a point for Churchill to make it 0-04 to 0-02 after 15 mins. From the kickout Ballymac’s Gene Griffin went on a great run and fed Dermot Leen who finished to the net. O’ Siocru sent over another point and keeper Padraig Laide pulled off an excellent save to keep the home side in front. Churchill had the next four points before the home team finished the half strongly with three points from Shane Reilly (2) and Colin McSwiney. Half time score Ballymac 1-08 Churchill 0-07.

Ballymac were once again first out of the blocks in the second half with Dermot Leen raising the white flag followed by the score of the game from Aiden Breen with a devastating run from the halfway line to finish to the net.Sub Padraig McCarthy and the ultra effective Gene Griffin had two more points leaving the score 1-12 to 0-07.
Churchill to their credit fought back and goaled through JJ Prior and had points from Sean Brennan (2) and Pa McCarthy. Dermot Leen had the final point of the game to leave the final score

Congratulations to Sadhbh and Cillian Brosnan who won gold medals in judo at the community games finals in Athlone last weekend.
Well done also to Laura O’Shea who performed brilliantly in swimming to reach the finals and only just missed out on a medal.
A great achievement for Ballymac!
