JEROME MC ELLISTRIM RIP
Ballymacelligott GAA Club lost one of its greatest servants with the passing of Jerome McEllistrim on Friday last. Jerome was President of our Club,a role he took great pride in fulfilling.Pride in his Club was one of Jerome’s great traits, for him after Family his Club was his great love.
His interest started at an early age when Ballymac home games were played in his father’s field. His involvement continued throughout his life as a player, selector, underage mentor, delegate, supporter and Club President were amongst the many roles he fulfilled.
Jerome was also an invaluable help to many Club referees as an umpire and any hint of hostilities between opposing players would be quickly brought to an end with a quick intervention by him.He never missed a Club AGM where he took his place at the top table and was never afraid to voice his opinions on Club matters.Certainly Club AGMs in the future will be poorer without Jerome’s presence.
He was a member of the Kerry Supporters Club and travelled the length and breadth of the country supporting the Green and Gold. His attendance at the 2014 Munster Final in Cork was most noteworthy as despite having to walk with the aid of a crutch from the City to Pairc Ui Caoimh and back again he thoroughly enjoyed Kerry’s victory on the day.
A guard of honour was provided by Ballymac GAA Club and the Kerry Supporters Club at his removal and on the day of his burial.
To his wife Mary, daughters Martina and Catherine and son J.D we extend our deepest condolences.
