Round 3 of the County League Div 3 was played at a windy Ballymac on Sunday. The home side began well and had the first scores of the game with two pointed frees from Padraig McCarthy. Mithcels responded with scores from Alan Murphy and Jamie Moriarty. After wides from both sides Ballymac went back in front from a great run and point from Aiden Breen. This was followed with points from McCarthy (45) and Breen. Shane McMahon had the last Mitchels score of the half to leave the score Ballymac 0-05 John Mitchels 0-03.
The away team started the second half much the better and had three points on the board after ten minutes. Ballymac’s sole reply was a McCarthy free. Then came the crucial score of the game, a goal from the impressive Jamie Moriarty. Ballymac to their credit responded well and had the next three points from McCarthy (2) and Shane Reilly. A fine point from Aiden Breen then drew the teams level once again. John Mitchels went on the attack and were awarded a very controversial close in free which was converted by Moriarty. The home side had one last attack and Aiden Breen’s long range effort was called wide by the referee much to the dismay of the home team. All in all a very close and exciting game of football played in a very sporting manner. Full time score: Ballymac 0-10 John Mitchels 1-08
