Castleisland District U-16 semi-final : Ballymac 4-10 Knock/Brosna 5-11
We were unfortunate to come up short against the combination side on
Sunday last as many decisions did not go our way on the day. The game
itself was an intriguing contest with the lead exchanging hand on
numerous occasions with the outcome not sure until the final whistle.
With Jack Scanlon netting a brace in the first half and Mossie Leen
orchestrating the attack from the forty, it was a pulsating game with
both sets of forwards causing untold damage. Jonathan Brick played the
proverbial blinder until he suffered a blow to the head in the second
half which resulted in his withdrawal from the game. Dylan Goggin
excelled at half-back and Gerard Brownes late arrival to the game gave
Ballymac an added option. However, our inability to curb the attacks
of Shane Fitzmaurice and Michael Walsh was the differebce between the
sides despite Ballymac’s refusal to throw in the towel. Jack O Shea,
added steel to our rearguard when introduced early in the second half
and Stephen Bermingham up front helped in the fightback. Patrick O
Connor was his ever dependable self until he too had to retire due to
an ankle injury. Our lads gave a good account of themselves but just
failed at the death. A place in the “B” final against Currow is the
reward which will be played next Sunday at Desmonds pitch with
throw-in at 4 30pm.
Central Region Board:
Our U-16s play their first game in the new
divisional board next Monday night against Keel. Throw-in is at 6 30pm
with venue yet to be decided.

Round 3 of the U16 Championship took place at Abbeydorney GAA pitch last Saturday in wet conditions and saw Kerry take on Wickow. Kerry started the better and by half time it was 5-6 to 0-0 in favour of the home team. Wicklow just couldnt get to grips with the crosswinds and sent a lot of posession wide, and with the Kerry girls scoring 2 further points in the second half, Wicklow got the scores they worked so hard for finishing with 1-1. Final score Kerry 5-8 Wicklow 1-1. Our thanks to Abbeydorney GAA club for the use of their facilities and to McElligots Bar for the use of their function room. . Again, a great win for the girls and hopefully this will continue at next weekends away match to Carlow. A win here is crucial to stay in the competition.
