Ballymac 2-10
Kenmare 0-18
(After Extra Time)
Ballymac hosted this Junior Footbll Championship Quarter Final on Sunday afternoon. Kenmare started the brighter and were three points ahead through Mark Crowley and a Paul O Connor free after seven minutes. Padraig McCarthy responded with two frees for Ballymac. Further points from O Connor and Alan O Leary for Kenmare and one from Aiden Breen made the halftime score Ballymac 0-03 Kenmare 0-06. The home side began the second half much the better and had two points from McCarthy and one from sub Bobby Howard to level the game. Kevin O Sullivan then kicked Kenmare back in front. From the kickout Aiden Breen gathered possession and went on a great run, passed to McCarthy who found Genie Griffin and he crashed the ball to the Kenmare net. Howard had another minor for Ballymac and a shock looked to be on the cards. Kenmare however steadied the ship and reeled off the next six points to take control once more. With time almost up Ballymac got a close in free and Padraig McCarthy somehow found the net through a wall of players to take the game to extra time. Full time score: Ballymac 2-08 Kenmare 0-14. Ballymac drew first blood in extra time with a point from but two O Connor frees gave Kenmare the lead. Further points were exchanged but try as they might Ballymac could not find another goal to win the game. This was a massive effort from each and everyone of the panel and trainer Maurice Flynn can take great positives from this performance for the rest of the year ahead.
