MINORS
Ballymac minors suffered their first defeat in the County League, going down by 2-13 to 3-3 at home to St. Pats Blennerville on Friday evening. Christy Leen got the hosts off to the perfect start with a fortuitous goal early on and points from Darragh Regan and Cillian Brosnan kept Ballymac well in touch at half time. Whatever the management team of Mossie Shanahan and Aidan Breen said to the troops at half time clearly had the desired effect as full forward Aaron Dunne pointed a beauty immediately on the resumption. However an injury hit Ballymac side were then dealt a huge blow when dangerous corner forward Barry Lyons limped off and as we had no substitutes on the day the team had to finish the game with 12 men. St. Pats took full advantage of their numerical advantage and quickly built up a seven point lead. However Ballymac responded in style through a wonderful goal from Tomás O’Connor. The centre back brilliantly fielded a kickout and ran over half the length of the field to blast a wonderful left footed shot to the bottom corner. Again St Pats pulled clear but Ballymac still refused to give in and were given a further boost when Regan blasted a 14 yard free to the roof of the net late on. However time ran out for the depleted hosts as St Pats ran out worthy winners.
Team: Paidi O’Connor, Gary Horan, Eoin Lyons, David Long, Tomás O’Connor, Joe Cassidy, Christy Leen, Micheál Reidy, Darragh Regan, Cillian Brosnan, Aaron Dunne, Gary Sheehy, Barry Lyons.
