SENIOR TEAM
Glenbeigh/Glencar 1-11, Ballymac 1-08
The senior team travelled to Glenbeigh/Glencar on Sunday last ,in the quarter-final of the Junior Championship. After a good win against Ballyduff in the previous round expectations were cautiously optimistic against the division one outfit ,and one of the favourite teams to win the competition. With the locals being able to call on the services of county senior stars Darren O Sullivan and Pa Kilkenny and a fringe panelist in Gavan O Grady, this experience was always going to count in the heat of the battle. The locals got off to a tonic start with a goal in the first minute but Ballymac got off the mark with free after five minutes from Padraig Mc Carthy, followed by one from play from the same player. Glenbeigh replied with a minor but Ballymac got the next three scores, the first coming from the young and excellent Vincent Horan, one each from play and a free from Aidan Breen after a foul on Vincent Horan. Glenbeigh playing against the breeze added two more points with Gavan O Grady starting to cause the Ballymac defence some problems. Two more Aidan Breen frees following fouls on Vincent Horan left the scores level at halftime on a scoreline of 1-4 to 7pts.The second half scoring was opened by Gavan O Grady after six minutes and he kept the scoreboard ticking over for the hosts ending the half with five points to his name from play and frees. Darren O Sullivan chipped in with a good score but all we could manage was one point in the secondhand from a free from the boot of Padraig McCarthy. We did have other chances but our shooting wasn’t clinical enough to put us in a position to win the game.A goal from Kevin O Shea in injury left a goal between the teams but time ran out and Glenbeigh held on for the win to advance to the semi-final on a scoreline of 1-11 to 1-8.Team; Padraig O Connor,Brendan O Donnell,Con Reynolds,Tj Casey,Matthew Galvin,Kevin O Shea,Niall O Shea,Mossie Shanahan,Aidan Breen,Luke Sweeney,Alan Bonn,Shane O Reilly,Padraig Mc Carthy,Daniel O Shea,Vincent Horan.Subs;Gerard Arthur’s for Alan Bonn,Eanna Reidy for Shane O Reilly. Our attention now focuses on the Co.
