SENIOR REVIEW
At the beginning of 2016 Glenflesk native Paud O’Donoghue was appointed as trainer of the Ballymac Senior Team with Tom O’Shea, Dennis O’Connor and Sean Brosnan assisting him as selectors. The main aim at the beginning of the year was promotion back to Division 3 and this was duly achieved with victories over Dr Crokes B, Moyvane, Skellig Rangers, Lispole, Renard, Valentia, Firies and Na Gael. Losses to Churchill and Fossa and a draw to Scartaglen were also recorded. Our 2 victories over Fossa and NaGael were particularly noteworthy as they were must win games on the day and our lads rose to the occasion on both matches to secure wins to ensure promotion. In the Premier Junior Championship we were victorious over Cordal in a preliminary round game, however, we exited the competition in the next Round where we never played to our potential in our defeat to Na Gael.
The team reached 2 Divisional Board finals in the St. Brendan’s League and the Coiste Tra Li championship but had to give second best on both occasions to St. Pats and Kerins O Rahillys. With the return of some players and the introduction of players from our minor panel into our senior squad, there is a hope our Senior team can carry on the momentum gathered in 2016 to make 2017 a memorial one for Club.
COLLEGES
Well done to players from the Club who were involved on the Tralee CBS and Mercy Mounthawk panels who participated in the recent Dunloe Cup final with the Green emerging victorious. Both schools have reached the quarter final of the Munster Colleges Senior competition. Again the Club is well represented in both squads.
LADIES AGM
The AGM of Ballymac GAA Ladies Club was held in the Club rooms on Sunday evening last. In his report, out going secretary, Anthony Curran gave a detailed account of the achievements of the Club for 2016.
Outgoing Chairman Donal Rahilly thanked all who helped throughout the year in any way and while the trophies won was not as high as in other years- more importantly our number of girls playing in 2016 was up from the previous year.
Both men were praised for the amount of work they have put in in their roles, and the Club was in a good position at the end of their terms of office.
The following were elected to the Executive for 2017
