On Tuesday night last Fionnán Fitzgerald stood down as Assistant Secretary of Kerry County Board having served two hard working years in the post. We wish to thank Fionnán for his hard work and dedication during his term on the County Board. He was always there at the end of the phone when we needed any help . One could not find a better administrator and communicator and we are lucky that he has now taken up the post of Secretary of Ballymac GAA Club. Under 16 Round-up for 2019
Our u 16s commenced training in early February in preparation for the Castleisland District League which began in April . We welcomed newcomers Mark & Conor Brick to the Club , and as a result we were able to form a panel of 24 players.
Castleisland District League
Our first Competition was the Castleisland District League , and this gave us early games and good preparation for Central Region (Division one). In our first game against Desmond’s, it was competitive up til half time , but as the second half wore on , we were well in control and ran out Comfortable winners at the final Whistle . In the final against Currow at the cordal venue , Currow started brightly and lead by 4 points after ten minutes . Our boys settled soon after and took control of the game to run out winners in a final scoreline of 5 12 to 2 10 . James Bailey accepted the trophy on behalf of the Victorious Team .
Central Region .
In the Central Region , we were in a group which consisted of 5 Teams , Laune Rangers , Na Gaeil, Austin Stacks , Ardfert and Castlegregory. Laune Rangers and Austin Stacks proved to be Formidable opposition, but Victory over Na Gaeil Ardfert and Castlegregory put us in the Division one (b) final against Ardfert in Austin Stacks park . The result against Castlegregory (7 16 to 2 06 ) gave us much confidence going into the final but Ardfert were more clinical on the night and ran out winners on a final score line of 1 -14 to 1 -06 .
County League Division Two
We competed in Division Two of the County League and our group consisted of Kilcummin, Ardfert ,St Mary’s / Renard, Na Gaeil and Fossa . Being without some of our regular team members due to holidays for the first 3 games , proved difficult as results did not go our way . With our full panel , we recorded sweet victories over Kilcummin 2 -16 to 0 -09 , and St Mary’s / Renard 3 -14 to 2 -10. Unfortunately we didn’t qualify for a semi final spot , but great progress was shown by all players and this lead to nine members of our team making the Castleisland District Championship Team . Denis Brosnan,Daragh Sweeney,Adam Joy,Adam Kelly,Sean Horan, James Bailey Donal Daly, Maurice O’Connell & Luke O’Connell .
U 16 County Championship
In the U 16 county Championship, Castleisland District played 5 Games . In our first game , we recorded a draw with Mid Kerry , thereafter we defeated Tralee District , St Brendan’s, Eoghan Rua but lost narrowly to East Kerry in the final Game . These results set us up with a Semi Final Game against Mid Kerry and in a close finish we were defeated by 5 points .
Development Squads
Four of our players were involved with the Development Squads during the Summer period . Adam Joy & Adam Kelly were with the U 16 Squad while Donal Daly & Luke O’Connell were involved with the U 15 Development Squads .
Tralee District League
In our final Competition in the Tralee District League, we played Ardfert Na Gaeil and Austin Stacks . A good first half against Austin Stacks wasn’t enough to beat the Rockies , but victories over Na Gaeil & Ardfert once again put us in the A final against Austin Stacks . Again we competed well in the first half but the Tralee side proved what a formidable side they were , with a solid performance in the second half running out comfortable winners in the end .
U 15 Super Tens
Our u 15 s competed in the super ten competition in Curran’s in mid October. We defeated Na Gaeil and Listowel emmets , but lost to Kilcummin in our third game . This gave us a place in the shield final . However moyvane were victorious in the final but great credit to our boys on reaching the final and for giving their all on the night.
