FAOI 14: Central Region U-14 League Rd 3 Result :
Ballymac 5 – 12 An Ghaeltacht 3 – 05
Played in the intense heat at Ballymac on Tuesday evening last Ballymac U-14s made very hard work of victory over the West Kerry side
in a game that ebbed and flowed throughout. Despite missing up to half a dozen regulars, Ballymac secured the win due to the phenomenal work
of mid-fielder, Keelan Brosnan who finished up with a personal tally of 3-08. A sub-par performance from the team allowed An Ghaeltacht into the game for long periods and indeed it was the visitors who started the more brightly, outscoring Ballymac by 4 points to two
after the opening quarter of an hour, with both Conor Ó Cinnéide and Aaron Ó Suilleabháin on target for the West Kerry side. It wasn’t until the introduction of Darragh Leen, did Ballymac assume control as the diminutive wing-forward added much needed pace to the ailing Ballymac forward line. Inside the remaining five minutes of the opening half, Ballymac scored 1-04 with Daire Keane netting the goal and the points coming from Tadhg Brick, Darragh Leen and a brace from Keelan Brosnan leaving the half-time score, Ballymac 1-06 An Ghaeltacht 0-04.
Ballymac resumed the game in explosive fashion with Ciaran Nolan Tighe and Keelan Brosnan adding to the scoreboard but An Ghaeltacht responded with two goals inside a minute to bring parity to the game. However, the home side again assumed control with two quick goals from David Nolan Tighe and from man-of-the-match Keelan Brosnan to leave six between the teams. An Ghaeltacht, not to be outdone goaled once more and added a further point to their tally but Ballymac had the final say of the game when Keelan scored his third goal and Barry Lyons adding a free to leave breathing space between the sides. It was an open game with some good quality play from both sides. However, the Ballymac management was left with much pondering after a comparatively poor display by the home side. Foireann : Barry Lyons, Cillian Gallagher, Ross Mansfield, Eddie Rogers, David Nolan Tighe, Liam O Brien, Kierasn Coggin, Joshua O Keeffe, Keelan Brosnan, Darragh Clifford, Cathal Dunne,Ciarán Nolan Tighe, Tadhg Brick, Daire Keane, Kevin Linehan, Darragh Leen, Darragh Broderick, James Carmody, Michael Hoare
FAOI 13: U-13 County League Rd 3 Result : Ballymac 1 – 09
Rathmore 7 – 07
In truth, the final scoreline scarcely reflects the course of the game as Ballymac was right in contention heading into the final five
minutes of this Rd 3 League encounter. However, after substitute Darragh Lynch was forced to retire with a nasty head injury, our
momentum was lost and the East Kerry side scored four late goals to put an exaggerated gloss on the final result. Ballymac was first on
the scoreboard with a fine point from Daire Keane and then moments later corner forward Darragh Broderick was on hand at the far post to
side foot the ball to the net to put the Blue n Gold into a commanding lead. It was nip and tuck for the remainder of the first half with
David Nolan Tighe and Joshua O Keeffe in fine form at centre-field. Ballymac lead 1-05 to 1-04 at half time with full-forward Kevin
Lenihan giving a fine display. However, some wasteful ball into our forward line meant that our dominance of possession was not reflected
on the scoreboard. The second half took off as the first finished with both sides attacking at will. Tadhg Brick held firm at full back, ably
assisted by the ever improving Dylan Dunne Moriarty. Cathal Dunne and Daire Keane were both a constant threat to the Rathmore rearguard and
some enterprising play by Ballymac led some delightful scores. Ballymac introduced 7 substitutes which did not help our momentum and the injury to Darragh Lynch put paid to any chance that Ballymac had of redeeming the situation. We all wish Darragh a speedy recovery It was an honest effort by all the lads but some handling errors led to Rathmore gaining possession on a number of occasions, leading to a concession of scores. So it is back to the drawing board once more with training and Rd 4 of the County League due to take place this Sunday July 21st at home to An Ghaeltacht with throw-in time of 7pm. Foireann : Brian Lonergan, Dylan Dunne Moriarty, Tadhg Brick, Barry Lyons, Ciarán Nolan Tighe, Cillian Gallagher, Joshua O Keeffe, David Nolan Tighe, Kieran Coggins, Cian Godley, Cathal Dunne, Darragh Broderick, Kevin Lenihan, Daire Keane, Jack O Connor, James Carmody, Diarmuid Lynch, Darragh Brosnan, Eoghan Leahy, Dylan McHugh, Eoin Culloty, Darragh Lynch, David Rogers
