Central Region League Rd 3 Result : Ballymac 5-08 Desmonds 4-05.
Ballymac gained two valuable points in their quest to qualify for the Central Region semi-finals with a keenly contested victory over
Castleisland on Wednesday evening last. Played in ideal conditions, Desmonds had an explosive start with a goal and a point inside the
first minute. In fact they doubled this score by the 10th minute and before we knew it, Ballymac faced a monumental task of trying to
retrieve the game. Our first score came from a free from Darragh Regan and when wing-back Eoin O Malley stole forward to point from distance,
it seemed that Ballymac were well on the way to reducing the deficit. Liam O Malley scored a goal after 15 minutes and Ballymac now had the
momentum with the help of a strengthening breeze. Then inside three minutes, Ballymac scored three goals, coming from Tomás O Connor and a
brace from man-of-the-match Micheál Reidy, which knocked Desmonds for six. Ballymac, incredibly led by 9 points at half time, having found
themselves 8 points down early in the game. Desmonds piled on the pressure in the second half and drove forward on every occasion. Stout
defending from David Long, Max O Brien and Keelan Brosnan gave Ballymac belief but Desmonds had reduced the deficit to three points
with 10 minutes remaining. However, when Micheál Reidy latched on to the ball to score his hat-trick, there was no way back for Desmonds.
Ballymac now face Austin Stacks in the final game with the winner knowing that a semi-final berth will have been obtained.
