Laune Rangers 1-09
Ballymacelligott 2-07
The girls played their second game of the County League against Laune Rangers in Killorglin on Sunday evening. It proved to be a highly exciting game played between to very even teams. Ballymac put on a great display from start to finish and deserved to come out on the right side of a one point victory. This newly formed team is making great strides and all the work being put in is now coming to the fore. Keep up the practice at home girls!!

Last Saturday evening saw us play at home in Ballymac in Rd 1 of the Central Region against the West Kerry amalgamated side of Annascaul and Lispole. Unfortunately Ballymac had to line out without the influential Michael Hoare and Robert Dowd and these absences seemed to have affected the home side as Ballymac never got into their stride at all in the game. Having to re-jig the team about, it was bound to prove difficult for Ballymac to compete with the visitors who play in a division above us in the County League. Having elected to play against the strong breeze in the opening half, Ballymac found themselves behind from a very early stage and it was a case of trying to chase the game from there on. Annascaul/Lispole were able to pick off scores from distance and once they goaled after 20 minutes it was an uphill battle for Ballymac. However, Darragh Regan managed to goal five minutes before half-time which cut the deficit somewhat. However, the second half opened as the first did with the visitors on the attack and tried as Ballymac did, they just could not reel in the West Kerry outfit. Very few of our players played to their potential as only David Long, Gary Horan, Brian Lonergan and Eddie Rogers played well. Keelan Brosnan was forced off the field with a nasty eye injury and we wish him a speedy recovery to the playing fields soon. Foireann : Brian Lonergan, David Nolan Tighe, Keelan Brosnan, Kevin O Connor, Eoin O Malley, David Long, Eddie Rogers, Max O Brien, Micheál Reidy, Darragh Regan, Tomás O Connor, Gary Horan, Brian O Connor, Paddy O Donnell, Daire Keane : Subs Jerdie O Shea, Liam O Malley, Joshua O Keeffe, Ciarán Nolan Tighe, Kieran Coggins, Cillian Gallagher. Next week, Ballymac have a bye so training will continue at the usual times during the week.

We travelled into Healy Park in Ballyrickard last week to take on Kerins O Rahillys in the penultimate round of phase 2 of the County League. Our Blue Team were unlucky to come up short against a spirited Strand Rd side losing on a scoreline of 8-08 to 6-08 in a titanic struggle. It was ebb and flow for the duration of the match with goalscoring chances galore for both sides. Daire Keane, Josh O Keeffe and David NolanTighe were in great form throughout as was Tadhg Brick, Cathal Dunne and James McDonnell. David McCarthy, Brian Lonergan, Barry Lyons and James Carmody also tried very hard. Our Gold Team also put in a creditable display against our town rivals and edged out winners on a scoreline of 3-13 to 4-03. Goals from Rachel Godley, Eoghan Kenny and Kieran Coggins saw Ballymac to victory in a very competitive game where Aidan O Brien, Darragh Brosnan, Darragh Lynch and Dean Lenihan all played their part. Dylan McHugh was also on the scoresheet as Brian Cassidy, Liam O Brien, Cian Godley, Oscar Reidy Gilroy, Darragh Broderick, Tomás Lynch, Eoin Culloty and David Rogers all contributed to a fine win. Our final game in Phase 2 takes place this coming Sunday evening June 24th with home matches against Spa. Throw-in time at 7pm.

Both our teams won their three games each which is highly impressive indeed. Next Saturday, June 23rd Leg 3 of this Blitz moves to Cordal with a 11 am start once again. Let’s see everybody there in numbers this Saturday.

Eric Mason Memorial Tournament
Saturday July 7th has been ear-marked for the inaugural Eric Mason Memorial Tournament. It is envisaged to stage an U-16 Blitz with 6 teams ( 2 groups of 3 ) throughout the day with all teams playing a minimum of two games. It is also hoped that teams from outside the county may visit and participate in the Blitz on the day. Eric, who sadly passed away at Easter time last year had been an active member and player with Ballymac Coiste na nÓg since he first joined the club at U-8 level. His untimely passing has saddened us all and in consultation with Eric’s family the Club decided to organise this U-16 Tournament in memory of Eric. We hope for a successful day on July 7th. No doubt, Eric will be smiling down upon us that day !
