FAOI 14: BALLYMAC 3-15 MILLTOWN CASTLEMAINE 3-3
We began our Central Division 2 campaign with a home game against Milltown/Castlemaine on Monday 17th. Dara Reagan and Daire Keane had us 5 points to no score up midway through the half. Further points from Keelan and Liam saw us lead 0-10 to 0-1 at half time, Milltown/Castlemaine’s only point coming in the 20th minute. Eddie Rodgers was very busy, winning Brian’s kickouts and carrying out his defensive duties excellently.
Milltown/Castlemaine began the second half with much more purpose scoring 1-1 straight away. Keelan added a point for us but ,they replied with 1-1 to leave only 2 points between the sides. For the second time in as many weeks a long range shot by Daire Keane found its way to the net. Liam O’Malley added a point and Keelan then took over and scored 2-3 to end the game as a contest. When we struggled a bit Keelan brought us back into it and a score of 2-8 from midfield is some feat.

FAOI 13: U-13 County League : Rd 1 Result : Spa, Killarney 0-10 Ballymac 1-09
The opening round of the County League saw us travel to Spa, Killarney to take on the local side in this eagerly awaited encounter between two evenly matched teams. With both sides missing a few regulars due to holidays and other engagements, those present on the night gave a totally committed display of football. Having elected to play against the strong breeze in the first half, Ballymac started the game more brightly with mid-fielders Kieran Coggins and Josh O Keeffe in dominant form. Ballymac retained the ball well playing into the ever increasing wind with wing backs David Nolan Tighe and Barry Lyons carrying the ball to the opposition. Daire Keane who was deployed at full forward landed the first two points of the game inside the opening eight minutes, the second coming from a free. Spa responded well and kicked four unanswered points to lead after a quarter of an hour. However, with Cathal Dunne, Tadhg Brick and Cillian Gallagher driving the team forward, Ballymac again regained superiority and scored 1-04 inside an eight minute spell with man-of-the-match Joshua O Keeffe goaling from an acute angle on 25 minutes. The other point scorers were Ciarán Nolan Tighe and three more from the ever elusive Daire Keane, leaving the half-time score at Ballymac 1-06 Spa 0-06. The Killarney side resumed the second half with great gusto and piled forward at every occasion scoring three points on the bounce. It was a tense and tight affair at this stage but the Ballymac defensive line held firm with Dylan Dunne Moriarty and Liam O Brien repelling the Killarney onslaught. Ballymac regrouped once again with Jack O Connor, Cian Godley and Darragh Leen getting more into the game. Ballymac then introduced Eoin Culloty, Diarmuid Lynch, Darragh Lynch, Eoghan Leahy and Kevin Linehan which gave us more impetus and Ballymac finished the stronger with two pointed frees from Daire Keane leaving two points between the teams at the final whistle. ‘Keeper Brian Lonergan can be well pleased with a clean sheet on the night and despite making hard work of the victory, Ballymac will take confidence from this performance as the face Na Gaeil at Killeen in Rd 2 this coming Sunday evening June 30th with throw-in again at 7pm.
