Our annual juvenile medal presentation took place at the Ballygarry House Hotel on Monday afternoon last with a very large turnout of parents and children at the function. This occasion has become one of the highlights of the Juvenile calendar over the past few years and everybody seems to enjoy this celebration of youngsters footballing talents. Again, it has been a remarkable year with success at all age levels at both District and County level. It too was a challenging season with the County Board revamping the old U-12 system and introducing extra competitions and initiating the Go-Games concept which has its admirers and critics. Our U-16 team won the County League Div. 4 title, the U-14s won out the Castleisland District League, the U-12s won both the new Central District League and the Castleisland District League, the U-10s won both the Castleisland District Blitz and the John Mitchels Blitz as did the U-8s. We cannot forget the U-6s who showed to everyone that the future of Ballymacelligott football is in secure hands. All of these teams as well as the growing number of girls were acknowledged at the Medal presentation with Kerins O Rahillys and Kerry star, Barry John Keane on hand to present the medals to the youngsters.
Awards were also given to Most Improved players and those with Best attendance at the different age groups at the awards ceremony and an All-Star team from the club was also selected to the delight of all. A Dj was present too who played all the latest chart hits to entertain the crowd. Finger-food, sandwiches and light refreshments were served to all present and there were also some Spot prizes given at various times throughout. There was also a draw for a €1000 holiday with the winner being Malachy McDaid
The club weekly lotto draw was also held at the medal presentation and it appeared that all and sundry enjoyed the occasion. We would like to thank all those who had helped with the organisation of the Medal presentation, to the staff and management of Ballygarry House Hotel who made us feel welcome, to all our sponsors including Vincent Murphy sports, Cassidys Restaurant and the Ballygarry House Hotel, to all those mentors and coaches who have volunteered their help right throughout the year, to the parents for their support and encouragement and finally to all those wonderful youngsters who have done themselves, their parents and indeed the club proud during the year, we salute you all.
