A hugely successful GAA Football camp was held at Ballymac GAA grounds last week with 72 juveniles registering to take part in the week long summer camp. The weather played its part despite a little rain on Thursday and report has it that everybody thoroughly enjoyed the camp. Arthur Fitzgerald and his team of coaches were so efficient and organised during the week, giving plenty of advice and direction to the kids and it seemed that all benefitted from the advice given. Kerry player, Paul Galvin visited the camp on Wednesday and U-12 player, Darragh Regan won a signed Kerry Jersey in a raffle which also took place during the week. The kids also received their Cúl Camp kit and bag when Micheál Quirke came to visit on Wednesday. U-14 player, Christopher Rogers was selected as Player of the week and he was delighted with the accolade. All in all, a very satisfying Cúl Camp and the most successful to date and we take the opportunity to thank all the coaches, Arthur, Amy, Aidan, Anthony, Colm, Peter and Fiachra for all their help and guidance. Central Region U-14 Div 3 Semi-Final Result : Ballymac 0-10 Annascaul/Lispole 2-04. Played at Ballymac on Sunday morning last, the first of this year’s semi-finals took place in ideal conditions, when Annascaul/Lispole almost produced a shock when putting Ballymac to the pin of their collar in this tightly contested duel. The West Kerry oufit however started poorly when they went 22 minutes without registering a score, allowing Ballymac to build up a 5 point led with Chris Leen, Jerdie O Shea and Aaron Dunne pointing from distance. However, in an eight minute spell, the combination side produced some spell-binding football to score 2-02 without reply leaving them 3 points to the good at half-time. Annascaul/Lispole extended their lead on the restart with a well taken point which served notice to Ballymac to up their performance, which they duly did with Micheál Reidy, Jack O Shea and Chris Leen all scoring. However, Annas/Lis nudged in front again with a pointed free and with time almost up Jack O Shea converted a close range free to leave the sides locked together. A high-octane encounter with nothing between the sides and hopefully both teams can serve up another thriller in the replay this coming weekend. Foireann: Garry Sheehy, Robert Dowd, Eoin Lyons, Max O Brien, Eddie Rogers, Aaron Dunne, Tomás O Connor, Morgan Quirke, Jack O Shea, Micheál Reidy, Chris Leen, Chris Rogers, Gary Horan, Jerdie O Shea, Paddy O Donnell. On Saturday last we travelled to our near neighbours, Firies to take on the locals in two U-8 and two U-10 games. With rain at the beginning of proceedings it took all teams some time to get used to the conditions and all then proceeded to show off all the required footballing skills. Mossie Brennan, Darren Breen, Eoin Creedon, Denis Brosnan and Maurice O Connell all excelled for the U-8s whereas Darragh Broderick, David Rogers, Adam Kelly, Rachel Godley and Darragh Brosnan were to the fore with the U-10s. It is quite evident that all players have shown signs of great progress throughout the summer and their skills are improving all the while. All this progress is as a result of the time, energy and expertise of all our coaches and mentors and they have shown great commitment and dedication in guiding all juveniles forward. The club is indebted to the role of our coaches. Well done to all involved last Saturday.
