Ballymacelligott 0-11
Spa 2-4
We kicked off our 2015 Co League campaign against Spa Killarney in Ballymac on Sat 21st March . A beautiful sunny day greeted both teams as they lined out and the game reflected the weather . It was a very exciting game from start to finish.
Ballymac opened the scoring through Therese Keane following 3 wides from earlier attacks. Spa hit back quickly with 1-01 , but Ballymac responded with good scores from Elle Mc Elligott, Cait and Aine Rice to leave it level with about 20 mins played. A further score from Spa and one from Aine Rice saw the scores level at half time 1-02 to 0-5 .
Spa started the 2nd half in lightening fashion scoring 1-02 within 3mins, however our girls then knuckled down to play some very good football. Therese Keane’s switch to midfield proved pivotal as she worked very hard to close down Spa’s influential midfielder and Aisling O Connell became more involved. Niamh Rahilly at centre back and Eve Creedon at wing back became more influential and our forwards began to play as a unit. We kicked 6 points without reply to get home by a single score. Spa missed a scoreable free with minutes left, Niamh won a great ball from the kick out and drove forward and we finished the game on an attack. A great team performance in the second half by all including subs that came on.
Team: Robin White, Sinead Mc Keown, Maeve O Sullivan, Caoimhe Caroll, Lisa Curran, Niamh Rahilly, Eve Creedon, Aine Rice (0-04), Aisling O Connell (0-01), Caroline Hurley (0-01), Therese Keane (0-01), Emily O Donoghue (0-01), Elle Sugrue, Elle Mc Elligott(0-02), Cait Rice (0-01).
Subs: Catriona Sommers for Ellie Sugrue 2nd half, Roisin Long for Lisa Curran 2nd half, Sophie O Donoghue for Cait Rice 2nd half & Yvonne Hurley.
Well done girls and keep up the good work!!!
