Ballymac 1-8 Dingle /Castlegregory 2-7
Last Sunday evening 4th Sept we took on Dingle /Castlegregory in Div 3 North Kerry League in Ballymac . The visitors had competed in a division above us in the co League but that gap wasn’t evident in this game , the Ballymac girls played some great football and were very unlucky not to win this game. Though missing some U14s who were playing also that evening we togged out 18 girls , we started brightly with Aisling O Connell & Niamh Rahilly giving a good platform & supply from midfield . Aisling got our first 2 scores one from a free , new additions Maeve Pierce & Lucy Murphy were showing well at wing forward and corner forward respectively both added a point a piece which put us up 4pt to 1 after 20 mins . Dingle through some positional changes came more into the game & added 2 points to leave the minimum between the sides with a few minutes to half time . Therese Keane at full forward then added a very good score to leave Ballymac up 5-3 at half time. It was a scoreline that didn’t do Ballymac justice as we had dominated possession in the first half , the final pass often didn’t find the target & our accuracy could have been better too .
The 2nd half was a lot more competitive & Dingle had the ball in the net within 5 minutes , which game them confidence . We responded with a free from Aisling . Dingle gained the upper hand for the next 15 mins and added 3 unanswered points to leave it 1-6 to 0-6 in their favour , Leah O Neill , Claire Kenny and Caoimhe Carroll defended bravely in this period . Dingle added another goal to leave them in a strong position heading for the final whistle but a great last quarter from our girls spearheaded by Aine Rice , Rachel Godley & Mary Healy, Robin’s kick outs hitting the wings and finding our girls saw Therese Keane kick another score , Aine Rice added 1-1 to leave the score 1-8 to 2-6 with a minute to go . Dingle however had a point from a free to leave 2 between us at the end . Though disappointed to lose the girls & management were very happy with the football that was played & the efforts made by all during the game . Maeve Pierce & Lucy Murphy’s display was very encouraging & gives us reason to be hopeful for future games.
We were to play Kerins O Rahilly’s this weekend however they have conceded to us , which leaves us facing Duagh again in the League Shield final venue and time still to be confirmed
