CAILINI FAOI 14 GOLD TEAM
North Kerry League Division 3 Shield Final.
The Ballymac Gold under 14 girls proved too strong for a very determined Dingle team in Ballymac on Sunday last. Only for some excellent defending throughout the game the result could have been closer. In the end we ran out winners 1-6 to 1-0 but not until the finishing stages could the girls relax and be sure of victory.
The first half saw both defences on top for most parts until full forward Jade O Riordan scored a great goal after an excellent kick passing move. Shortly after Jade followed up with another point to leave it 1-1 to 0-0. Just before halftime Kate O Connor scored our second point to leave the halftime score 1-2 to 0-0 . Dingle came into the game stronger at the start of the second half but some poor shooting didn’t help their cause although they did score a goal midway through the first half which turned out to be their only score in the game. The girls finished the game very strong with points from Laura Dunne, Kate O Connor, Ellie Mac Elligott and Mary Anne Fleming to leave the final score 1-6 to 1-0. On the day our defence was excellent with Sophie, Aoife, Mille and especially Emily O Brien at centre back keeping the Dingle girls at bay. Ellie Mac Elligott and Kate O Connor complimented each other very well in mid field covering all parts of the field and up front we had Mary Ann , Laura and Jade leading the way. Captain Jade O Riordan accepted the shield from Frank Mc Loughlin on behalf of the North Kerry Board.
Special thanks to Dingle for a very sporting game, and for making the trip to Ballymac.

CAILINI FAOI 14 – REVIEW
The Ladies u14 team will look back on 2016 as a year of real success.
Boasting a panel of 27 players this group of players has grown from strength to strength.
A victim of previous teams successes the team was thrown in at the deep end, Division 2 of the County league and competed against the following teams Austin stacks, Castleisland Desmonds, Fossa, Na Gaeil, Legion and Scartaglin. It proved a very competitive Division and points were hard earned. Ballymac, due to these girls efforts have established themselves as worthy competitors in this division & although no medals came our way this year the team gained a foothold in the division and will be hoping to use their experience to propel themselves onto greater heights next year.
The standout success of the year was Aisling O’ Connell playing her way onto the County panel, Aisling was a joy to support in her efforts reaching The All Ireland final in Nenagh where Kerry just came up short on the day. Aisling has instilled a belief to her fellow club members that hard work & commitment pays off.
FEILE
Hosting Feile, the girls did their club proud off the field and forged some lifelong friendships and showcased Ballymac hospitality at its finest. On the field of play the girls were magnificent, they battled hard and played their way to a division two semi final just coming up short to a Fethard team boasting three County players. It was a bitter sweet moment, watching a team we drew with in the first game and were only beaten by in the dying moments of the second game, pick up the Silverware, but the girls took all of the positives from the experience.
North Kerry League.
If nothing else the county league and Feile offered up a dilemma that was taken on board by management and quickly addressed. With a panel of 27 players it was obvious to parents & mentors there was going to be a major difficulty to offer sufficient game time to everyone. A decision was taken to enter two North Kerry league teams. The Blue Team would compete in Division 1 and the Gold Team in Division 3 with a couple of girls overlapping to compete in both. The Success of this can be seen with the Gold team contesting a Shield Final against Dingle in the coming weeks followed by the Blue team competing in a Plate Final against Castleisland Desmonds.
Mentors
The management team saw Kieran Savage and Kieran O’ Connor come from the previous years U12 side and John McKeown returned to the ranks previously coaching in the boys section. Ballymac welcomed newcomer Linda Gleeson to the club and she was made very welcome by all in the club and quickly immersed herself in the job to hand.
Injuries
To say the team had injuries would be an understatement and to date I don’t think a single game was played with a fully fit panel, however replacements were there in abundance and everyone seized their opportunity when it was presented.
The girls themselves are a pleasure to work with and are a credit to their parents, club & County. We saw a lot of new faces in 2016 and here is to hoping the new player trend continues.

Our Girls academy came to an end for 2016 on Sunday last. Throughout the year there has been a great turn out of girls on every Sunday morning. Many thanks to all parents who brought their children to training and look forward to seeing you all again in 2017. Great credit is also due to all the trainers who gave of their time to improve the football skills of these players. We hope to see you all in Ballygarry for the Annual Awards evening on Monday next.
