Ballymac began the second half much stronger. Emily O’Donaghue, Lisa Curran, Caoimhe Carroll and Eve Creedon all came on and made a strong influence on the pitch. Unfortunately a minute into the 2nd half Duagh got a good 3rd goal but the girls rolled up the sleeves and started to make in-roads to the lead. Led by Niamh and Aisling we performed a lot better, a goal from Aisling following good work from Leah which settled us. Mary and Emily chipped in with 2 good points, a good run from Niamh saw Emily drop a delightful ball to Lisa who palmed the ball to the net to make it 2-4 to 3-5. Ballymac were very unlucky not to score two more goals but by then Duagh got their second wind, attacked and found the back of the net. Despite the fact that Ballymac were playing much better football the clock was ticking and time finally ran out. A few more minutes and victory could have been Ballymac’s.
Our team really excelled on the night and showed great character to mount a very strong comeback. Niamh Rahilly, Aisling O’Connell and Leah O Neill were excellent on the night and really took the fight to Duagh, good 2nd half performances from Tara and Michaela Murphy and Aine Rice were encouraging too along with those of all our team.
North Kerry League for this group next in August and September so we continue to train for that.
