U14 County League Round 7
Ballymac 1-05 Currow 1-04
We travelled to Currow on Thursday 18th June for a top of the table clash and came away with the narrowest of victory’s. Currow’s form in the league had seen them clock some very high scores particularly goals and they started in similar form from the throw in, with their first attack ending up in our net. Our girls put that behind them however and after a troublesome enough 10mins they started to play themselves back into the game. Aine Rice and Aisling O Connell got a point each to leave it 1-01 to 0-02. Niamh Rahilly and Eve Creedon in the full back line became more dominant and well assisted by Sophie O Donoghue they began to get the better of their opponents. Currow added 2 more points one from a free before Emily O Donoghue burst through the centre to rifle home a great goal, she followed this with a free shortly afterwards. Aine Rice kicked a good point from an angle to put us one up at the break. Ballymac 1-04 Currow 1-03.
The 2nd half was low scoring with defense’s on top in both sides. Both teams created goal chances but a combination of last ditch defending ( in particular by the Currow full back who was outstanding in the 2nd half ) and poor finishing saw them go a begging. Currow leveled up the game with 15mins to go, however after a series of attacks Aisling O Connell swung over the winner with 5 mins to go following good work by Cait Rice and Aine Rice.
A very good team performance by all, Niamh & Eve stood out in defence, Caroline Hurley had a good game in the unfamiliar position of wing back. Sophie, Caoimhe and Maeve contributed to a solid defensive effort. Midfield assisted by Robin’s accurate kick outs did well and more than broke even. Aisling’s scores and Therese’s work ethic and energy were high points. Attack led by Aine , Cait and Emily worked very hard and deserved the scores we got. Elle Sugrue , Elle Mc Elligott and Lisa tried hard too. A win that puts us on top of the table 7 from 7.
ROUND 8
Ballymac 2-09, Moyvane 1-02
We completed our last game in the co league prior to the knock out stage on Monday 22nd June at home to Moyvane. This resulted in a comfortable win for the girls. Moyvane though were badly hampered by their u12s not playing with them resulting in an 11 a side game. Our girls played very well though and seemed to enjoy the night .
Lisa Curran did most of the damage grabbing 2-03 in the first 15mins. Two of the points she kicked showed her accuracy off to great effect. Aisling kicked 2 points, Emily 0-02 , Sophie and Cora getting a point a piece.
8 wins from 8 outings is as good as it can be and we finish in the no. 1 position on the div 3 table, the girls have been fantastic so far and play with a great attitude and spirit. On to the semi final now, we will have a home game v Spa, date and time TBC.
