U14 County League Round 6
Ballyduff 1-05, Ballymac 2-09
We travelled to Ballyduff last Thursday evening to play round 6 and came out on top after a tough and competitive encounter. We played the first half with the aid of the strong wind and got the first 2 scores, points from Aine Rice and Catriona Sommers. Ballyduff came into the game strongly after this kicking the next 4 scores. We made some swithces, Niamh Rahilly going to full back, Caoimhe Carroll going to centre back and Maeve O Sullivan to wing back and this seemed to stabilise us. Catriona Sommers got a good goal following some good approach work by Aisling O Connell and Ellie Mc Elligott . Lisa Curran kicked a good score and Emily O Donoghue kicked one just before half time to leave us 1-04 to 0-04 up at half time .
The 2nd half saw Ballyduff now playing with the wind and they scored a goal straight from the throw in and followed up with a point from the kick out to leave us trailing by a point. Caroline Hurley made her return, coming on for Cait Rice and Therese Keane thundered into the game winning lots of ball and driving Ballymac forward. Following winning a great ball on the ground Therese sent in a dangerous ball towards goal, Aine Rice won it and played in Emily O Donoghue who found the net with a powerful finish. Catriona Sommers kicked another point, Aine Rice got a good point kicking around the corner, Emily kicked 2 more, one form a free for a foul on Elle Mc Elligott and Caroline Hurley scored our final point with a minute to go.
A good 2nd half performance with Therese showing some great determination in her play particularly in the 2nd half and U12’s Emily and Catriona getting 2-05 between them were key factors in the win. Defensively there is some work to be done but this win guarantees us a home semi-final with 2 more games to play v Currow and Moyvane. Well done to all concerned.
FAOI 12 County League Round 2
Castlegregory 1-03, Ballymac 1-13
The girls travelled to Castlegregory on a fine sunny Thursday evening and came away victorious by nine points, on a scoreline of 1-13 to 1-03 in the second game in Division 2A of the county league. There was only three points between the teams until midway though the secondhalf when the girls kicked six points without reply from Cora Savage (3),Emily O Donoghue (2) and Catriona Sommers (1).Up until then the girls found it hard to get into their rhythm not helped by the locals only being able to field 12 players for the game. Roisin Long was outstanding in defence and Catriona in midfield finishing the game with 1-4 to her name. Great credit to the parents for having 24 players present for the game.

FAOI 12 County League Round 3
Legion 3-01, Ballymac 0-10
The third round of Div 2A of the county league took place in Legion on Tuesday last and the girls fought to the final whistle, to earn a draw, when it didn’t look likely heading into the last ten minutes. The girls didn’t play particularly well on the night conceding three goals, and not bringing their shooting boots from play. The switch of Cora Savage from centre forward to the full forward line caused the home side lots of problems with her finishing the game with eight points out of our total of ten. Our six backs played very well on the night and definitely kept us in the game.Yvonne Hurley and Roisin Rahilly when introduced tried hardest in the forwards. We now lie in second place in the league table on 7 points with our second last game of the league at home to Scartaglen on Thursday 11th June at home.
Team; Grainne Galvin, Ellie Linehan, Roisin Long, Sophie O Donoghue, Ciara Palmer, Sinead Mc Keown, Cathy Palmer, Catriona Sommers, Emily O Donoghue, Aoife Galvin, Cora Savage, Aylssa Leen, Eimear Curran, Yvonne Hurley, Millie Dunne, Aideen Lynch, Bridget Sheehan, Roisin Rahilly, Geraldine Cassidy, Lorna Daly.
We would like to wish Cora Savage the best of luck in Semple Stadium on Sunday next when she plays in the primary game at half time in the Kerry v Tipp senior munster championship game. Great to have a representative of the team and the club selected to play. Hopefully she is the first of many in the years ahead.
FAOI 10 & 8
The U10s though missing a few played very well and are showing great progress. Orla O Connor was great in the full back position, Kerry Hennesy showed well in goals and in defense. Midfield players of Ciara Palmer, Kate Collins and Geraldine Cassidy were outstanding and getting a few scores as well. Laura Sugrue got a goal and 3 points, Rachel Creedon bagged a goal and a point. Abbey Leahy, Roisin Raggett, Ella Quirke, Aoibin Brodrick and Rachel Griffen had good moments in both attack and defense. Niamh Lynch had a great last 15mins playing midfield and the younger girls Alice Brosnan, Maggie Scanlon, Labhaoise Mansfield & Sara West tried hard. Special mention to Laura Kelly who gave a very assured and improved performance on the morning.
Great to see the older girls playing consistently but what’s very encouraging is the improvement shown by the younger girls. Well done to all !!
BASKETBALL
Best of luck to the 4 girls from our Parish who are travelling with Team Kerry Basketball to Biarritz this weekend for a basketball tournament. Good luck to Lisa Curran, Aishling O Connell, Ellie McElligott, Eve Creedon and Coach Billy McGaley.
