Ballymac V Na Gaeil
Referee – Padraig O’Sullivan
It was Na Gaeils turn to host Ballymac in the 6th round of The County League and with great support in attendance for both sides it was sure to be a game full of excitement and the players did not disappoint.
It was 13 minutes before the first point was put on the score board and it was curtosy of Na Gaeils Diarmuid Herlihys right foot. Followed very quickly by a second point from this very hard working Corner Forward.
Ballymac did reply when Gene Griffen put the ball over the net with his team mate Daire Keane following suit to level the game for the first time. A free kick awarded to the host side saw Dara Devine bring his team ahead but it was his skillfully placed goal that followed shortly after that woke the game up. Ballymac were not deterred and when Eanna Reidy found the opportunity to take on the Na Gaeil keeper and in outstanding fashion he scored the first goal of the game for their side. The score was now Ballymac 1-04 to Na Gaeils 1-05.
Both sides defended well for the closing minutes of this first half and with 2 further points from Ballymac’s Aiden Breen and Vinny Horan and 4 points from Na Gaeil the half time score was Ballymac 1-06 to Na Gaeils 1-09.
The second half began with a renewed enthusiasm. Na Gaeil again began the scoring with 2 points from Eoin Sheehy and Diarmiud Herlihy followed by 2 from Ballymacs Aiden Breen and Cian Counihan . But when Na Gaeils Eoghain Sheehy broke through the Ballymac Defence to score his teams 2nd goal with only 2 minutes of official time to go the score board read Ballymac 1-08 to Na Gaeils 2-13 . As the game went into injury time Ballymacs Aiden Breen scored another outstanding point followed with Padraig McCarthy soaring his way to the goal to over take the Na Gaeil keeper and with great skill planted the ball at the back of the net. With supporters now anxious on the side line knowing that all Ballymac needed was a goal to obtain a draw game they were not disappointed as Thomas O’Connor edged his way towards the Na Gaeil goal and with great support from his team members he gave his side that well needed goal to ensure that draw.
The final score was Ballymac 3-10 and Na Gaeil 2-13.
A very exciting second half with a great result for Ballymac.
