Ballymacelligott 4-11 Firies 1-16
Our u 17s played Firies in Ballymac in Round 3 of the County League in Glorious sunshine in Ballymac on Monday night last .
A minutes silence was observed by the home side prior to kick off as a mark of respect to the late Breda Sugrue former secretary of Ballymac Coiste na nÓg .
Our boys got off to a tonic start with a goal and 2 points from Maurice O’ Connell , great distribution coming from our midfielders. Sean Rice soon hit the back of the net following lovely free flowing football from the home side . Firies replied with a few points of their own , but Ballymac s forwards were well on top as Gary Lynch had the ball in the net for the home sides 3 rd goal to put Ballymac in a good position coming to half time .
Firies soon replied with a goal , but a second goal from Sean Rice had us leading at half-time on the score line of 4-06 to 1 10 .
Firies had the first point of the second half, but Ballymac soon replied from the boot of Donal Daly . Ballymac s defence were getting to grips with the Firies fowards but Ballymac kept the scoreboard ticking over with further points from Niall Collins,Donal Daly & Maurice o Connell
Our boys stood firm in the last 5 mins and ran out winners on a scoreline of 4 11 to 1 16 .
Niall Collins, Raymond Lowe ,Maurice O’Connell,Sam Mansfield,Eoin Creedon ,Gary Lynch,Sean Rice & Skye Lynch gave an outstanding performance,
Donal Daly put in a great hours work covering every part of the pitch .
Our defence can be proud of their efforts and really played as a unit tonight .
Luke O’Connell,Mossie Brennan and Andy Rogers played like players inspired.
Our half backs really stood firm & can be proud of their achievements, Luke & Aidan Horgan and the ever reliable Diarmuid Galvin .
Our Goalie Kieran Slattery had a great game and his kick outs started many an attack for us.
We wish James Kenny a speedy recovery from his injury.
Overall a great team performance, and now we look forward to a Semi final against Milltown / Castlemaine in a couple of weeks time .
