Congratulations to Ballymac U12 team on their victory on Saturday in the Diarmuid O Brien Memorial Tournament hosted by Newmarket GAA Club.
High hopes accompanied our U 12 boy’s team who travelled to Newmarket on Saturday last to take part in the Diarmuid O Brien Memorial Tournament. In the group stage wins against Croke Rovers(Cork), Currow and Dromtarrife (Cork) saw us top the group and qualify for the final against the host Club. Newmarket started the better and led 0-4 to 0-2 midway through the first half. However Ballymac struck for three goals before half time which saw us lead 3-6 to 0-4 at the break. The Cork lads came more into the game in the second half and three goals from them put a more respectable look on the scoreboard. However there was no doubting Ballymac’s superiority on the day running out winners on a 5-12 to 3-4 scoreline. This saw us retain the trophy. Team Captain Jamie Sugrue accepted the Diarmuid O Brien Shield on behalf of his teammates. Special mention must also go to mentors Roland Rodgers and Eddie O Connell who had the team in fine fettle for the day. Many thanks to the Newmarket GAA Club for the invitation and the hospitality on the day.
