Ballymacelligott opened their championship campaign on Saturday August 2nd with a neutral venue game in Keel against Castlegregory. A little rain just prior to the game made underfoot conditions slippy.

Ballymac opened the scoring through a point from play from Donal Daly. Cian O Grady from Castle quickly cancelled this out. Darragh Broderick put Ballymac two point clear with two scores from frees. A point from play , plus a two pointer from a free Cian O Grady put Castle in the lead. Donal Daly responded for Ballymac with a point from a free.  Another two pointer from a free followed by a point from play put Castle into a three point lead. Two points from play from Daire Keane and Mairtin McKivergan reduced the margin to 1 point. This was back up to 3 points with another 2 pointer from Cian O Grady. The last score of the game came from Daragh Regan with a point from play leaving the half time score  Castlegregory  0.9   Ballymac 0.7

Castlegregory were first on the scoreboard in the second half with a point from a free from the boot of Cian O Grady. Ballymac disappointed with their tally of eight wides in the first half were determined to make amends and scored the next six scores. Darragh Broderick was temporarily substituted due to a head injury by Jack Joy.  Points from play from Jack Joy, Daragh Regan and Donal Daly followed quickly. A point from a free by Vinny Horan and a goal from Daire Keane put Ballymac into a five point lead. Castle responded with a point from a free which was cancelled out with a point from play by Donal Daly.  Castlegregory dug deep and brought  themselves back into the game with four unanswered points from frees from Cian O Grady, two single points and a two pointer. Heading into the last five minutes of the game the difference between the sides was the bare minimum. Donal increased this to two with a point from play. The last score of the game was a goal by Vinny Horan. A long ball in by Vinny was caught by the goalie but the umpire judged that he stepped back over the line with the ball. The final score was Ballymacelligott  2.14  to Castlegregory  0.15  . Ballymac scored 2.7 in the second half with 2.5 from play. All Castlegregory second half scores came from frees.
