The Credit Union SFL Div 6B Round
Ballymacelligott Milltown/Castlemaine
Venue: Ballymacelligott Date: 17th May 2024.
Top of the Divison 6B table Milltown, found the mid table Ballymac side, thorny and hard to outdistance in this very competitive Senior County League game on Friday evening in Ballymacelligott. Milltown/Castlemaine were thankful to a great start to the game and saw them have a good lead at half time. However Ballymac slowly but surely hauled them back and the game ended in a draw.
By the time Ballymac scored their first point, from Conor Brick, in the tenth minute of the game Milltown had 1-01 on the scoreboard. Shane McGillicuddy back from injury scored a goal for Ballymac but Milltown replied with a point and a goal withing two minutes. Conor Brick added another point for Ballymac Another two points from Milltown before the half time whistle left the visitors comfortably in front at half time.
Half Time score : Ballymacelligott 1-02 Milltown/Castlemaine 2-04
It was uplifting to see Darragh Broderick , back from a long term injury, came on as a substitute in the second half. A point from Broderick opened the scoring in the second half followed by two more from Brian Cassidy and Shane McGillicuddy. There was two points between the teams. Riain Foley scored a point. Then James Kenny stole a ball meant for a Milltown player and passed to Michael Herlihy who added another point for Ballymac. Milltown added a point and and the next score was a goal from Riain Foley for Milltown. It looked all over for the Ballymac side with a mountain to climb and six points between the teams and fifteen minutes left.
However from here until the end of the game the Ballymac side played with great heart and spirit and Mid Kerry side failed to score until the end of the game. The Ballymac backs defended like lions and the forwards threw off the shackles and aimed and scored some lovely points.
In this final period Ballymac scored six points. James Kenny with the first of the six, then four in a row (one from a free) from Darragh Broderick and the last score of the game coming from Michael Herlihy.
This was a great team performance. Everyone played their part and the second half performance showed great heart and communication between the players.
