The Credit Union SFL Div 1 Round 4
Ballymacelligott 1-16 Spa Killarney 0-13
Venue: John Mitchel’s GAA Ground Date: 21st April 2024
We in Ballymac GAA wish to extend our Thanks to The John Mitchel’s GAA Committee who facilitated our game in Ballyseedy today. We are very grateful for the facilities. It was great to see Michéal Reidy back from an injury he sustained last September and showing his everlasting passion for the game.
Both Spa and Ballymacelligott were level on three points each going into this fourth round clash. Both teams had lost a game, drew one and won one. There was a lot to play for. Played in ideal playing and weather conditions. Both teams gave it their best in an earnest, energetic and entertaining game.
Ballymac held their own when down to fourteen players for the last ten minutes of the first half. A goal from Brian Lonergan nine minutes into the second half gave Ballymacelligott that extra push to finish well and secure the two vital points.
The game opened with two points from Spa quickly followed by two for the home side from Vinnie Horan from a free and Donal Daly. Spa added two more from frees taken by Evan Cronin. Spa were pressing hard and had two great goal chances saved by Christy Leen in the Ballymac Goal and another save within a minute by full back Daniel O’Shea. Daire Keane and Evan Cronin added one each for their teams. Daniel O’Shea added a point and Ballymac were reduced to 14 when Seán Rice was shown a black card. Daire Keane scored a point followed by four in a row from Spa. Captain Vinnie Horan scored the last point of the half from a free just before the half time whistle.
