Ballymacelligott 1-16 Brosna 0-14
Venue: Cordal.
Our senior team commenced their Championship on Friday 11th August. The Venue was an excellent Cordal pitch with superb organisation and traffic management from Cordal GAA.
This was a hard-earned win for Ballymac and the scoreline belied the closeness and competitiveness of the game.
Brosna opened the scoring with a point from a free by Paul Walsh who was a thorn in the Ballymac side right through the game. He scored 11 of Brosna’s points.
Ballymac responded quickly scoring 1-03; 1-1 from captain Vinnie Horan, a point from a free from Aidan Breen, and another from play from Daire Keane.
Four more points for Brosna followed a point from Paul Walsh before the interval. This lead was narrowed with a point from Donal Daly and pointed free from Aidan Breen.
Half Time score: Ballymac 1-6 Brosna 0-6.
The second half saw Brosna narrow the lead to one point. The intensity of play from both sides made the next twenty minutes as exciting a game as one could watch. Ballymac scored points from Aidan Breen, Michéal Reidy, and Donal Daly. Paul Walsh added two points for Brosna as did Donal Daly and Aidan Breen for Ballymac.
From then on both teams swapped points with Ballymac edging out by five points at the final whistle.
There was great support from both sides which added to the drama on the pitch.
